TRUST ME GENTLEMEN, YOU READ THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK OF GETTING GROSSED OUT... Wink  FEMALE STUFF BEING DISCUSSED HERE...

This is a well, delicate subject, I have just gotten over my "monthly"...does anyone elses CH go up about 10 notches while on their period?  I can't even use a tampon, something about it just makes my head explode, I've thought about asking my doctor about not taking the sugar pills of my BC pills for that week and just starting a new pack and not having a monthly, has anyone tried that?

My period has never had an effect on my headaches.  I don't know if that would help because when you get to the end of the each pack the estrogen levels will still always change.  Does that make sense?

I never took BC pills because of the headaches.  I have avoided taking pills of any sort because of the headaches.  The only pills I ever take are the occasional aspirin/ibuprofin OR - when in cycle -- preventative meds for clusters.  In my history, less is betta. Smiley  No birth control pills, no NUTTIN!  Let your body find it's own rythym and IMHO the clusters will subside.  It may present a "challenge" of sorts, but hey, could be worse, no? Smiley

The less pills you take, the better your body is****I firmly believe this. Especially if you have a finniky hypothalmus. Smiley

Yeah, I've thought about that too, but I'm not ready to give up on having more children just yet, but I know I DONT want one right now, I know there are other preventative measures to take, well, I'll just leave it at that, I think you're right Kim, the less the better, I guess I will start looking into other options...THANKS!

Didn't the FDA recently approve a new medicine designed to reduce the frequency of periods, or something like that... All I know... It's hard enough to read some of these posts as it is... Take the periods away, and everything is just a big ol' run-on sentence.

Aprilbee, if you want to skip a period you can; keep on taking them pills - IF they are the combination kind, containing both estrogens and progestogens; look on the box). Just go on taking the "loaded" ones.

Only, if you forget one and  don't catch it in time you'll have your cycle so f*cked up, you won't know when to stop and have a rest period, and may end up getting pregnant and taking pills at the same time...

That's why it is not recommended to do it more than once or maybe twice in a row.

A good alternative might be opting for the injection; that contains progestagens only (less chance of bad headaches/migraines) and will in most women reduce period pains and amount of fluid lost; some women stop having periods all together.
There is one slight drawback - they may never come back again (but that only goes for a small percentage of women).

Good luck

Not wanting to disagree here but im going to, IMHO the injection has some unpleasant side effects when coming off it...a friend of mine is going through a really rough time since stopping that injection, severe depression and all sorts....not saying it is definately linked, but know of more than a couple now that have been affected this way...

Hope you find something to help you out with this one April...

Was reading on the comments Ave made about the drawbacks to the shots...
You might also develop a bald spot, or two, or your hair can get reeeally thinned out with those BC shots.  One of my best friends had this happen - right at the front of her crown.  Attractive girl, but NOT exactly an attractive look ;D
Just a caveat..!

Ok, sorry!! I'm a smartass!

Don't recommend the Depo Provera shots.  I was on them for 3 years and it was great because I stopped getting my period but when I stopped taking them....it was like the flood gates from hell (sorry guys!!,we warned not to read this thread).  My period has never returned to normal.

My h/a's don't seem to be different when I'm on my period (in answer to your question).

I've been on depo provera for about 12 years now.  No sides, except some weight gain.  No lost hair.  And the best part...NO PERIODS!!!
I don't plan on getting off the shot, LOL.

Mast, who's one big run on sentence and LOVES shots...of several kinds Smiley

If you think your hormones may be affecting your CH and you don't want to muck about with the Pill, why not consider taking the remedies recommended for people with hormone fluctuations and PMT e.g. high dose Oil of Evening Primrose +B Vits. This will not affect any pregnancy plans or pregnancies either.

Just a thought as it works for me (my migraines can be hormone triggered, but my Ch aren't)

I have been on hormone replacement therapy for 9 years now and I have not noticed any difference in my CH from when I did get my period.
Just my opinion but I dont think hormones play a part in CH, at least mine anyway.

Hey April!

There was a time where I looked forward to my period because it meant I would have a whole week pain free.  When the cycle really kicked in..that theory went out the window!  I don't get hit worse...I just get hit.  I don't take anything for birth control.  My hon has had a vasectomy (sp?)  That's the way to go girls! LMAO

A friend of mine tried taking BC for 3 months straight hoping to get her period only 4 times a year because of very bad migraines.  It did not work and her period was totally screwed up.  Your best bet....talk to you doctor and see what he/she thinks.  Everybody reacts differently to CH meds and to birth control meds.  Some people get side effects....some people don't.

Good luck
hugs
Ann
