Hello and movies as a trigger
« on: Aug 31st, 2003, 8:16pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Hello, I am a 16 year veteran of ch and am in a new cycle (approaching the cresendo phase).  My cycles are every other year and are usually aug-oct but I have had Christmas and February surprise years.

I am very happy to have found oxygen.  Eventually I have to go to Migranol or DHE inj.  I also take verapamil 240 mg / day, I'm going to 2x 240 now.

My triggers (other than normal clock cycles) are alcohol, chocolate, and movie theatres or watching a TV at home with the lights low.  Is this a trigger for anyone else?

It's great to know there is a site like this!

Unfortunate you are forced to find this site, but glad you have!  Welcome aboard!

I have only found one possible trigger.  One of the worst to find, BTW, and that is sex.  No joking.  But other than that, none of the ones you mentioned have any effect on me.  Although there are those here that do have those and others as triggers.  you will find just about anything can be a trigger to some people.

Have you tried oxygen?  A miricle worker for most ch'ers.  Read all the buttons too the left, lots of good info!

As you have noticed from reading the posts, use this for bitching crying screaming venting or what ever.  There are always ears (eyes) to listen to ya!

Good luck to ya and keep us posted on how you are doing!

I do not seem to have any issues with lights, TV, computers as a trigger or even as an annoyance in an attack.  The only trigger that I have been able to place my finger on is alcohol.  As far as the alcohol goes, beer and rum definately can do me in but not always (approximately 80% of the time).  I have never been hit while drinking vodka, but I am still afraid to try even that most days.  Chocolate has never triggered me either.  We are all different though...

Thanks for all the best wishes and comments. I am surprised that movie theaters aren't a more common trigger.  It seems the flicker of the images must do something like an epileptics response to flashing images. So a month or two of no adult beverages and movies, but I always remember that there are chronics who have it way worse, God bless em!

LOL, as a chronic sufferer, thanks!  Bottom line, do what works for you.  The "normal" attacks are horrible enough.  I damn sure do not want to bring on a "bonus" attack!   ;D

Best wishes for you Orion!

Hi and Welcome to the message board.  The only triggers I have noticed thus far are acohol and getting overheated.  I haven't been to the movies during cycle so I dont know about that one but the TV in a dark room or the pc don't bother or trigger me (knock on wood)

Orion,
welcome, You probably get hit while watching a movie because it relaxes you and you are doing something you like. The beast hates these things. As a test you can try to watch a movie that you will hate and be irritated by, you probably will be fine. Remember this plan, stay stressed, never sleep and you will be fine. LOL

I'm with Opus on the relaxation part.  During my cycles I can't sit and watch tv at the end of the day.  Within the hour I get a hit.

Good luck and wishing you all PFDAN always, Linda T

Opus, That's IT!.  I'm just watching too many good movies!  So, if I start watching the ones I can't stand, the attacks will go away!   Did Richard Simmons ever make any movies?

My husband has DH.  Alcohol is a major trigger. He gave that up long ago.   Movies and strobe lights can also trigger them.

Yep, same problem with the movies and TV without enough light. Solution was to rent movies and get up often. The breaks seemed to make things OK.

Orion,
Great news, sounds like you have found a solution.

Vig,
I'm sure you can buy a Richard Simmons video called " sweating to the oldies" but I don't know if he made it to the big screen.
