continued pain!

Well its monday and i have had three more headaches, oh yeah for those of you interested i am a 28 year old male, in good health except for a smoker. you know its strange how easy it was for me to not use drugs or alcohol any more but i just can't seem to quit those damn cigs. I am an iron worker and at first i thought the headaches may be from inhailing vapors from welding rods so i stopped welding for a while and it didn't help. the more research i do the more i think this may be my problem. Now that i am clean i think back on the years when i was using and i can remember a time for about a month a few years ago i was getting horrible headachesp. I'm not proud to say it but i was always pretty well self medicated on strong narcotics so i really can't say if it was the same kind of pain i am having now. I am very strong in my beliefs and principals and will not use any narcotic to ease this pain. the pain i felt for years was much worse. the kind on the inside if you know what i mean. I am very happy with my life and who and what i am today but these headaches really do fucking suck! I will continue to stay in touch and i plan to make an appointment with a neurologist soon. If these headaches don't stop soon i will get my regular doctor to maybe prescribe me some imitrex if he thinks its o.k. thank you all for your support and yes i have a support group for the other stuff. Its a fellowship called narcotics anonymous and they all understand but like you may or may not know NA does not really cover cluster headaches and I plan to stay here to get what i need. Once again thank you all and it feels good to know that there are people who know exactly how i feel. Some of the people in my family i assume, and i try not to assume too much just don't really understand how bad this pain really is! I tried to explain it to my mother and all i could say was the unrelenting pain of a muscle cramp"charlie horse" in my head and when it finally "lets go" its almost a euphoric feeling.

Hi Tommy, to bad to read you are suffering. Imitrex should help to kill the attacks. Hope you can see a neuro soon, in the meanwhile hang in there, it WILL get better! PFDAN painful murazza

Tommy, Just wanted to welcome you to the site. I'm glad you found us. You'll learn a lot about the right meds to take from this site. Have you tried O2? A lot of people here get relief from it. No worries about narcotics here...they don't help. Yeah, these damn headaches weren't caused by welding....unless you welded something to your head!   Stay around, Virginia

Sorry you have this horror but it sounds to me that you're going at this thing just about right. If these things wake you out of a sound sleep, chances they are clusters. The link to Simon's letter is worth a look. It's the best we have to describe this thing to others. Stick around and let us know how things are going. Charlie

Sorry you're here, but hopefully you'll get lots of help - this is the place for you. I have a good friend(s) who suffers from clusters, and have learned a lot in the process.... Are you taking oxygen? This is generally a very good abortive, though it doesn't work for everyone....get it ASAP and read the oxygen link at the top of the ch.com message board in the general section on how to use it... here it is: http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm If you don't have any abortives (what you use the minute you get an attack, oxygen is one of them), ask your doctor about: imitrex injections or nasal, zomig nasal spray, maxalt tabs, amerge tablets, frova. Or ask about any sumatriptans. I don't know first hand about them, but See here: http://www.clusterheadaches.com/about.html#TREATMENT and here: http://www.clusterheadaches.org/medications.htm Things people do to abort a headache without meds: Please READ.... http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm One of those things may help you if you don't have anything else to fight with right away. Hopefully one of these things will help. See your Neuro if it kills him/her, or get into your gp's office, whatever it takes... PFDAN, Peppermint
