Does Cold help anyone

I know it sounds crazy but.....
Okay now two days in the row I have been able to fight off my headaches by drinking 3 glasses of ice cold water or juice right after the other and then eating 2 or 3 popcicles? Crazy? I dont know but I will be one popcicle eating fool if this works again.
I dont know why it works unless lowering my body temperature.

And it is much cheaper than the medicine.

Definately cheaper!!  I've never tried ice cold water or popcicles.  I used to drink like a full glass of water when I felt one coming on because its supposed to give you oxygen, but all it did was make me nausiated.

Thanks for the suggestion, hopefully it will help someone!!  Grin

Ice water used to help, but I'd do like the water x3 link and drink 30 or 40 oz as fast as I could. (never tried popcicles) The water thing pretty much stopped working but cold air is always good ... it's good to be in Wisconsin in the winter if ya' have CH.

Heck, I'd dunk my head in a bucket of liquid nitrogen if I thought it would help ... it'd sure be cold, but there's those nasty side effects like being able to hammer a nail into a 2x4 with your head that keeps me from doing it.  Wink

Take care

i have find sitting in front of a fan very helpful just lately, if i catch it before it grabs me, i can stop about 60% of attacks, found a  natural painkiller too that helps, ( "4head"  in uk) it is menthol with some natural painkilling ingredient, to be dabbed or rubbed( rubbing is good) onto affected area, works quite well, but gotta catch it early enough

I used to try using the heating pad.....until it occured to me (well duh) that it was not helping but possibly making it worse....lately I've been putting my head over the a/c or putting ice to my head...don't know if it acutally helps but it does feel somewhat "good".  I've been just sooooo hot lately when an attack hits.

Air conditioning on the face feels great to me!

I do the water thing also, ALOT of water.  And of course ice packs.  I can't tolerate heat during a cluster because I already feel like I'm boiling over.  Sad

I keep 6 frozen gel packs in my Freezer. I have used them all in a night. I think they help some, but maybe just another way to distract it. I have layed down on my airconditioner vent and turned the thermostat down to 60. I dont know if it helps, it just seems to a bit!
Aint much gonna help a 9 or a 10.

Very cold air blowing directly into my face is almost as effective as O2. If I am out of O2 or traveling I turn the air conditioning in the car on to maximum when the beast strikes and it will abort most CHs in about the same time (maybe a little longer) than O2.

Some of the past posts about the use of refrigerated O2 are also very interesting. An ice pack and O2 helps me faster than just O2.

Cold? Hell yeah!

I take the trex shot and I go dunk my head in ice water, breathe a little, then back in. Not good as far getting oxygen, but it numbs the pain until I get relief. I' ve been in shorts, barefoot, shirtless, doing the dance outside in 20 degree weather, as well as getting the AC full blast with 10 degree weather, hummmmm cold gooooood!!!

Hey Sleepyman

Yes, cold definitely works for me. It is amazing how hot the side of my head gets. It actually melts whatever cold I place on my head. Right now it is a bag of frozen corn! Never tried eating or drinking anything real cold though. Maybe I'll eat the corn instead of puting the bag on my head! I'm kidding, but you did give me an idea to try. Gonna stock up on popsicles if it works for me.

thanx and stay cool

Dave uses ice packs on the side he gets hit on and one on the back of the neck too. Wonder if he could handle  popcicles  ???  I'll have to try it and see what happens. Thanks for the idea. If nothing eles Mychael will have popcicles to help him out with his teeth!  Wink

Nothing like a very cold can from the frige or a very cold cloth. Cool and quiet or I'd start damaging things around me.

Cool.

See thats just it too. I have melted countless bags of frozen vegatables up on my head and neck it feels great for a second, but ingesting all of this cold just seems to kill the pain a little faster.
