How many of you have trouble falling asleep? I have had severe insomnia since my first attack 15 years ago. I think it has something to do with the fear of waking up in excrutiating pain. I am episodic and in remission now, but every nite i lay there awake hoping that i will not get hit after falling asleep. I am med free and have been for some time. I use to take tylenol PM nightly before bed, but i got hit in 2000 with one of the worst cycles ever while on the tylenol PM. Rebounds? I Dont know. Maybe it was just my time to suffer. I dont take   anything now to help me sleep.          Somebody tell me a bedtime story.    ..............andy

I am not really an insomniac. I just have a really hard time falling asleep at night. And I sometimes, a lot, am scared to go to bed. So I play spider solitaire until dawn. And sometimes, like the other night, I stayed up until 5 am looking for a good animated gif for here, but they all said you couldnt link directly to them, so I couldnt use them and then the very next day Mark C posted this website thing where you can upload any pictures or gifs for free and then post them here so then I had to start my search all over again but I couldn't find anything that I really liked...well I did find this dancing bear gif for den cuz he is such a dead head and I saved it for him and everything but he didnt like it. He said that he never understood the bears and I said then why do we have stickers of them all over and he said they were given to him so I almost gave up my search but then I found this hello kitty gif and I do so love hello kitty but I just wasn't sure if I wanted to use but I saved it just in case but then I found this great lava lamp gif that was nifty and then I found one of cornholio and then the swirly one that i have now but I passed up this comet one and I am thiking maybe I should have gone with the comet one. I just don't know, what do you think? Did I tell you about spider solitaire yet? It is so much fun and it usually helps me feel sleepy, especially after I take some benedryl but sometimes I get on a winning streak and I have to keep playing so that I can get a new high score record but then sometimes I think I am pushing it when I am sleepy and that I might lose so its really a toss up. I don't play it as much as I used to but when I do play I always ask myself why I dont play more often, ya know? But I gotta tell you a secret. See, sometimes when I am playing, I pretend like I am at a big casino and I am playing and this millionaire guys comes up and says he will pay for me to keep playing but my husband says I am too tired but then I keep playing becasue hey, he is paing and what does it matter if I lose, but then I get nervous and start smoking too much. Speaking of benedryl, sometimes if I take melatonin and dont go to sleep right away, then I get the spins when I do lay down and feel like I am going to throw up but maybe that is just too many smokes too, ya never know with this stuff because everything acts differently in everyones body.

I wonder if I can get some chickens already I just think they are the cutest things ever and I wont eat them but I will eat the eggs but thats a lot of eggs and I guess I could give some to the neighbors but not all of them because if I get chickens then I will have to cook a lot more egg salad and quiche and merangue or however you spell that word. Den says the dog will eat the chickens but the dog stays in the front yard not the back and we could have a chicken coop. Oh my god, speaking of which, did I tell you about the giant spider that was in the living room the other night? The thing was the size of my fist and let me tell you, I have these giant freakish hands and really strange wrists, I make den look at them all the time cuz they are so strange. He just says I am crazy but I KNOW they are just not right but anyway this spider was on the fireplace and den tried to kill it but it got away and then I was afraid all night it would come and get me but I normally like spiders but this one was real big and in the house and so anyway I never found it until the next day I got out some tissue paper from a gift bag and out came the spider and den killed it which totally reminds me of this time that there was a roach running across the living room florr because they are just everywhere down here and I screamed for denny to kill it but he was being slow and I couldnt find anything to stomp it with so I punched it as hard as I could and it made this nasty popping sound but my knuckles never even hit the floor cuz it was such a controlled punch and it was pretty cool but kinda gross at the same time and I think that smoking while typing really slows me down a lot which cn be good because sometimes I talk too much but den is sleeping and I got some nuggles but I need to get some more but I like the newlywed nuggles and he likes the illegal nuggles. See I read this article once when I was in 8th grade and it said that there were all these different sleep positions and that they told a lot about your relationship and I remember them all but I dont know if they are true for us because we have to try to blend nuggles with rubbing and that makes it harder. But in the morning I really like my nuggles and denny gives me some but then he has to go to work and leave me and I hate that part so I always try to keep him there by saying things like....oh I have something really important to tell you...and he says what...and then I tell him he has to come closer to hear it because my voice is sleeping...and then i trick him into giving me more nuggles but now he knows my trick so I have to pretend like he didnt give me any kisses yet and that I am real sad so that he will stay longer but then he has to work and bring home the ham so I cant really keep him but I wish he could get paid just staying home all day but he cant and thats just reality that I have to face and I try really hard to but it makes me sad sometimes but when he comes home then its really fun because I missed him all day but I watch dr phil and I am ok.

Are you asleep yet? That always works for Den.

Peace and rambles,
Georgia

Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z, Georgia, I think you're great!  I only found this family a couple of weeks ago, but you help me everyday.  I get great info in the meds messages.

But mainly, I keep learning that I'm not alone and not unique.  For instance, I play spider solataire every day--it's in my entourage of addictive games. Georgia, do you play with 2 suits or 4?

It's 3:14 AM my time and I was up 'til 5AM the last two nites--even though I did finally go to bed.  Annnnd, I don't get CHs at night, so fear of falling asleep is not the problem.  I think the meds I've started taking for this episode are interacting with other meds that I take routinely.  Melatonin does not help.  I'm thinking about going back to Valerian.

So, you ask (especially Georgia), how do I entertain myself into the wee-wee hours since the demon doesn't ask me to dance?  Well, tonight I downloaded about 150 pieces of clip art from the MS Office website.  I learned to search by style.  I found several that would be way cute icons to use in this here note, but I haven't figured out how yet.

I played the usual round of computer games.  http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/ lets you download 2 games per day for free.  They have a wonderful archive of shareware, demos, abandonware, etc.  I explored the educational games this evening, having depleted the puzzles, and hit the jackpot.  I found the only PC game ever written by Timothy Leary, called Mind Mirror.  It's also a personality assessment tool.  I downloaded it and began playing--there's a lot to it, so it will keep me busy for a while.

I'm not done with this missive yet, guess I shouldn't store it all up for one note...

One of the things I learned here at OUCH is that we clusterheads like Coke.  I went to visit a friend today and took a couple of cans with me.  I bumped (not banged) my right temple hard on the edge of her bathroom door, and my daily noon CH was about a 7 on the Kip scale.  I lay on her sofa with an ice pack, moaning and pleading with God to JUST MAKE IT STOP!  It lasted over an hour even with a second dose of Zomig.

Later in the afternoon, when I opened my second Coke, my friend chastised me for drinking it.  I (gently) explained that after 4 weeks of suicide headaches, Coke was the least of my problems.  And it did help knowing that I'm not alone.

OK, just one more story for tonight.  I've been having a fantasy that several times a day an announcer from the "cosmos" starts blaring in my head:  "We're sorry to inform you that your life will be temporarily interrupted by a half hour of agony.  Draw an icebag from the freezer, take a pill, call your cat and proceed immediately to the darkened guest room.  Do not pass Go.  And definitely do not collect $200.  You can resume "normal" living after this brief suspension of service.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Well, my 16 year old blind Papillon is calling me from her nest in my bedroom.  Guess I'll take her outside, brush my teeth, go to bed and listen to a really good book on tape for the next couple of hours.  I am sooooo tired.

Nitey nite and sweet peaceful dreams to all.

Goodnight Gracie.  Goodnight George.  Goodnight Andy.

Carla

Carla -

Will you be my best friend?! Girl...I just adore you. I have got to get myself to that site...a game by Timothy Leary?! That sounds way too fun. Or maybe thats a bad idea...just another thing to keep me up at night. Ahh but what the hell!! And the message from the cosmos?! That is great!!

What do I do to keep myself busy? Well, lately I play on the computer, write on this MB, chat in AIM, watch my husband sleep, rub his belly, play with the kitten, listen to the cows and the bugs outside, look up strange things in strange books, drink lemonade....thats about it for now. I used to (when I lived alone): listen to Art Bell, make candles from the drippings of other candles in plastic cups (if you do this....remember the wick!), watch movies, play on the computer, clean, paint clouds on my bedroom walls, wake my cats for walks at 3am around town, watch the freaky neighbor guy, call people and keep them up all night with me, rearrange the furniture, quilt, clean the fish tank just for the fun of it, go shopping at the 24 hour stores even though I didn't need anything, go fro drives in the country with the windows down listening to crickets and peepers, look at the real estate guides and drive around looking at the houses even though I had no intention of buying one, make photo albums, read "the cards", take every sleeping drug I could get my hands on, party all night and be sad when everyone else fell asleep....

I went through a serious stage of insomnia where I would only sleep 3 hours a WEEK. I was bored out of my mind. I resented normal people for sleeping all the time. I would call my friends at anytime of the day or night and beg them to talk to me. I begged my dr to help me. It was really getting to the point of being dangerous. I mean, I was driving home from work one night and I stopped at the stop sign next to my house...and there I sat, through two cigarettes, waiting for the stop sign to turn from red to green. When I realized what I was doing..it scared the shit outta me. I knew something had to give....thats when I begged my dr, who by the way, said she would send me for a sleep study. I said, "how are you going to study my sleep when I DONT SLEEP??" She didnt get it. I was livid. Anyway, then I moved to Texas....got married....and am doing much better about sleeping at night. Mostly. Just pretend like it isn't 4:30 in the morning right now.

Oh ya, and Carla - welcome home. This is the best place in the world....all you ever wanted to know about CH and more.....all the support and understanding you could ever want and more. I drink a lot of coke and a lot of coffee. The need for caffeine is understood here too. What meds are you taking, by the way? Have you tried oxygen yet? Maybe you posted that somewhere else already, but I cant remeber right now.

Oh and about the spider.....I play two suits normally, four sometimes.

Peace out girl,
Georgia

Chronic chronic insomniac here.  I can sometimes go for days without sleep. When I go for long binges of no sleep though, I know when I do fall asleep, I will awaken very soon with a hum-dinger.

Just ask Den for some. He always gives the best nuggles. Sometimes he is busy though, so it helps to look really cute and be all sleepy and naked. Say it like this, "I wan nuggles" in the littlest voice you can. Works like a charm everytime.

... hmm... I never sleep well...

my sleep cycle get screwed up pretty easily... I'll finally get to sleep about 1:30 or 2:00, wake up at six, go to work or whatever, and do it all over again for weeks on end..

maybe thats why I'm so damn cranky all the time... hmm.

... and when I'm in cycle... I actually fear sleep.  I'll do my damndest to stay awake as long as I can some nights, when I'm sure I'll get hit.... it's kinda like a Nightmare on Elm Street thing....

Since were tellin stories.........I am purdy burnt not gettin but a few hours sleep past few weeks.I'm a supporter and not sure my insomnia counts or ranks with you all. But I can't fall asleep now till after 3:30 am and on the couch in fronta the TV is my nitely ritual.....here lately I don't even wanna go to bed....strange. Brad thinks that is wierd and doesn't like my sleep behavior.....he doesn't understand. Cootie, sorry that you are hurting now. My back hurts daily too, sometimes i got to sleep on the floor with my legs on my bed. Quote:
I'm a supporter and not sure my insomnia counts or ranks with you all.
My question wasnt just for the clusterheads. You are an important part of this board just as all the clusterheads are too. I hope you get some rest before the party this weekend. Have a good time and dont overdo it.  ................andy

I have never ever been a good sleeper.  Even before CH became a lovely addition to my life.  At 16 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and the docs think/thought that was a big reason why i don't sleep worth crap.  i have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep.  I got tired of meds by the time i was 18 and stopped the meds the rhuemetologist gave me.  I still am hesistant to start regular meds even for the CH.  I still take meds "as needed" but wow how did i start babbling like this.  Damn ok I'm done lol
