Fall, Tailgating, College, and Drunkeness

Some of the thoughts of football on my Death-to-the-New-York-Yankees thread got me to thinking...Down here (the South) we have this tradition on game day called tailgating. Pack the car (preferably the SUV or station wagon) full of food, booze, grill, food, booze, booze, and booze and then you get to the stadium when the first light hits the horizon (even if the game is that night) and you proceed to consume it all. Wearing navy blazers and repp ties is not uncommon.
O yeah, then you go to the game later. Most likely under the influence with the flask in tow.
Anyone got any good tailgating stories we can share as college football rounds the bend? What's your alma mater? Me? University of South Carolina and the University of Iowa (where they don't tailgate...heathens) I have a few, but I'd like to hear some of y'all's.
BTW, last night, I stood out in my backyard and could hear from a high school a mile or two away, drums beating and the trumpets blaring. They was practicin'. It's right around the corner!!!!

Love to tailgate. Invented at Viking Stadium in Minneapolis in the 60's.
When we don't go to the Chief's games due to the extreme cost of the tickets (Bastards) we just hang on the deck, make lots of noise, BBQ, eat, drink and then go inside to watch the game to keep from freezing to death.
Just around the corner -- can't wait.

Of course we have tailgatein parties in this necka the woods to...but....the local town law enforcement has made it practially illigal or workin on it......at least the drinkin routyu end of the deal....have seen many a news report warning against it and they show the cops patorling thru the tailgater area lookin for drinkers. Huh........they say if the drinkin is not out in the open 'they may let it go'. What's next.....proabition ! I'm sure !!! Pam that used to love them parties but is paranoid of jail now

Personally, I HATE football.....'cept maybe halftime.......and, being from CA, I know what tailgating is......that's where the jerk driving behind you is fixing to drive right up into your backside...  .....oooh, now we got trouble.......actually, tailgate picnics were invented for warm summer nights at Hollywood Bowl.....nice wine, great cheeses, some wonderful delicacies, and some awesome music under the sta rs......THEN you heathens turned tailgate parties into these huge debacles, a remake of animal house with more alcohol, then ya paint your faces & chests some outrageous color combo.......do you even know there's a game going on down on that pretty oval piece of grass??

One pf the best times I had at a game. Night game, but we got to the stadium, ohhhh, around 7 AM. I had a whiskey sour and a bagel for b'fast. That was the beginning of strange times.
Carolina was playing Marshall. Well, after 8+ hours of drinking and eating chicken wings, we go to the game. I had a flask of vodka in my blazer pocket. Ugliness ensued.
Carolina lost. To Marshall!!!
After the game, we needed to drink more as we were sobering up. Some inbred crackers from West Virginia came by and started talkin' shite to us. More ugliness.
I never bitch slapped a redneck before. It was COOL!!
I told him:
"Boy, you sure got a purty mouth". **POW**
I got cut off by the bartender. Fucker.

So Brian, you're a Gamecock-Hawkeye mix. I guess I won't hold that against you ... one of my best friends got his PhD at SC and we (wifey & I) used to visit them down in Columbia often. The Hawkeye part ... well, that's another story.
Me, I'm a Badger and yes, Wisconsin does tailgate. It's actually not an option ... more of a requirement. Tailgate the Packer game ... the Badgers ... the Brewers (who R they?) Actually, I think that whenver 3 or more cheeseheads get together a tailgate is required by law. 
Also, tailgating is not "real" if you don't have at least a dozen brats boiling in beer and another dozen grilling over the coals. BTW, football season is already started for all you nay-sayers. We got training camps .. .wooohooo!

Got a very close friend who bleeds Packer Green and yellow. He goes to Lambeau at least once a year (he's from Wisconsin) and he told me about the most AWESOME tailgating tales.
Said there is this polka band that goes around playing and they put a bucket down while they play, but yr supposed to fill it up with beer. Love that story. THAT'S tailgating!!!
As for Iowa, yeah, I did my MA there. LOVE the Hawkeyes, but I am a southerner and I bleed garnet and black.
We do tailgating right down here, n'est-ce pas?

University of Oklahoma has the best tailgating!! Peole line the streets for miles cooking out, and having a blast! the PRIDE of Oklahoma band goes through the streets of Norman playing Boomer Sooner, I CAN'T wait!!! It has been a long off season!
First official game is on at 4:00 am central time this Saturday and relplayed later that day!! ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!

I remember the first time that I tailgated in college. I was going to San Jose State and we were playing our local rivals Stanford (boo hiss  ) at Stanford.
Well, on our side of the parking lot it was all Fords, Chevys, Buicks cooking hot dogs & hamburgers....On THEIR side of the parking lot it was Beemers & Jaguars cooking steaks, crabs, & lobsters.....well that put us in OUR place! But we DID win the game so that's all that matters! (Very rare for the Spartans to beat the Cardinals but it happens once in a while).

Virginia, Brian, Big Dan, Echo( I notice you've said nothing so far.....)-and all others who enjoy this sport....
I support your LOVE of the sport.....just never developed that instinct, I guess.....one of the things I appreciated about my husband was his lack of interest in football......now, after many years, he not only watches every game, goes to them, follows the stats, but he has ALSO discovered the joys of golf....... I'm doomed..... !!!
