Frustration reaching its boiling point!

I am so so tired! 2 weeks now without more than 2 straight hours of sleep. Out of Meds, out of patience!
Marched my ass straight to my Neuro this morning to ask for a different treatment and to also get them to fill out my FMLA form. Doctor was on vacation. Thanks Doc, would have been nice to have known that. The other Dr. wouldnt change the meds, he said i'd have to wait for my original Doc to come back from Vac. Grrrrrrrrr!!! I asked him if he could fill out my FMLA form and he said to take it up front for the receptionist to fill out.
She says i have to be out for a range of dates and not intermittantly. She also made the mistake of telling me that i didnt qualify for FMLA because i only had headaches and it was for more serious conditions. She dont realize how close she came to being attacked and probably will never know.
Vented enough for now, I am at the end of my rope with Doctors. I will try and get my HMO plan administrator to up my allowable limits on Imitrex and just try and hang on till this cycle goes away.
Does anybody know how much Oxygen cost and how to go about getting it?

Sorry to hear about your frustrations. Two weeks without any real sleep and CH to boot, then someone says "just Headaches"! I cannot believe you did not rip her head off!

I have always been lucky enough to get a script from the neuro for 02. Once I have paper in hand, I call the local medical supply company and they basically ask what I want?

I normally get two small tanks for portability, A rebreather mask and one huge tank to plant in my halway closet. A couple of 10' hoses and on 50 ' and I set!

It will depend on your insurence (assuming you have it) but the cost to me has always been about $100.00 for three months of 02.

Good luck, hang in there. It will pass.

The receptionist is either brain dead, or just a total bitch.  You can apply for FMLA intermittently, and you can get it for clusters.  All you need is approval by your doc (any doc) and acceptance by your employer.  I think you need to go back to your doc's office, and raise a holy Hell.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the criteria for FMLA rather loose?  The main criticism of it is that it does not really HELP you finacially, but you can use it when you want.

Any lawyers here?

O wait, I'm a lawyer.

No, I'm not. Yes I am.

I'll ask the attorney sitting in teh office next to me.  Hold the line please.

Dan's idea sounds pretty good to me.

If that doesn't work out, give this a looksee:

Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique

This technique significantly helped  to shorten my cluster headache attacks.

It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little more circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a kind of internal “flexing” or “push.” Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands.  Try to think of it as “filling” your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. If you do, it never will. Every now and then it can work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice.

I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use this method. The doctor, while holding his arm at his side, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully the same day. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks.  My 20-minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance dealing with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain. I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this method but whatever it is, at least indirectly kills the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes real concentration.

This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this beast. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance.

Give it your best shot and I wish you the best of luck fighting this demon.
