What works for you?

I have had clusters since I was 12.  I am 23 now.  Last year was the worst to date.  Imitrex injections from the ER didn't even help.  I dont like taking anything for them except for excedrin.  I have had the injections and the pills.  Stadol just fucked me up.  I have found that hot water or showers helps alot.  I also suck hot water up my nose and that helps a little.  In a severe attack nothing works accept time.  I have seen hand fulls of doctors but nothing that we try works.  Are there any little things that you all do that help you get through hell.  I cant drink or eat any dairy when I have these attacks.  I am in a cluster right now. I have had 10, 1 hour long attacks in the last 48 hours.  What happens to you people?  I would like to know.  How long do they last for you people?  I have had one last 5 hrs and it didn't let up untill the second Imitrex shot in the ER.  My cluster tends to last a month to a month and a half and it seems to go on a bell curve.  They start out mild and far between and then progress into 3-6 a day and then fade like they came.  Does this happen to anyone else? What about preventitive meds that don't have a lot of side effects?

Have you tried O2 yet?  It works to varying degrees for different folks. I don't think you can overdose on it.
I use Imitrex injections and O2. Two to five minutes later and I have a life again.

Hi there

This is my coctail

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles. The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day
This work fine for me

The very best from Svenn

Welcome to the MB.  As was said above - O2 works for quite a few people.  I'm not one of them but wish I was.

I use the hot shower method for now.

My shower has one of those massager heads and I turn that thing on full blast. All those little hot droplets smacking around on my head and neck helps a whole bunch.

Get the massager head Smiley
