Card-carrying clusterhead

One of the things we all dread is getting hit in public, and lately I seem to have had my share of that. No place to run or hide, and people staring at me or asking 20 questions.  A friend sent me this after hearing about another rough week-end,  and I have printed it out in a smaller format, and intend to have it laminated and keep it in my wallet for just those times.

   Tell me what you think.

    My name is---------

I suffer from a little known illness called cluster headaches that causes extreme pain.  It is not  life threatening, althought it may appear so.  I am not on drugs or alcohol.  I may need assistance in getting to my medicationor administering it.  I will be O.K. in 1 to 2 hours.  Please do not ask me questions or request I do anything until the pain has passed, as I cannot give you my full attention.  The best assistance, is to do as I request, or leave me alone.  Thank you for your understanding.

Linda, I'm sorry you are getting hit hard right now, especially in public.  To me, there is something humiliating about people watching me....when there is no place to hide.  The card sounds like a really good idea.  Your friend sounds like a real good one to send you something like that.  The written equivalent of a medical ID bracelet.  Plus, it's another great way to spread the word about ch's.....seems that sometimes, the written word works better than trying to explain things verbally.

Duh is a good word.  As is "the bomb".........i shall forevor embrace the duh that resides within me.   It's good.  Really.  Those that use the word "duh" in a way that implies stupidity or lack of comprehension, i feel sure need comprehensive assistance. Smiley

Linda, that's a good idea. I'd like to have a laminated one for most people and one of Jack's on the other side for idiots who insist on helping or play it down as "just a headache"

I remember the card idea. The reason it's good is that it's a way to let ER types know you're not insane, a junkie or worse.  Epileptics carrry them because if you're found having an attack and can't answer, it lets others know what's going on when the medics get there. So many of us, after a seizure cannot talk for a time and a card can make this so much easier. MDs, addresses and most importantly, a list of drugs and doses should be there. Family and friend's numbers are good too.

What about a card that says:

To the ER  Staff

I belong to a large CH family. We have your home address. Currently your home is surrounded by a gang of CHers. Treat me properly and with dignity or each of the CHers now gathered at your home will trigger CH attacks on your front lawn. Please bring in small children and pets as this will not be pretty. No one will be harmed but your neighbors will be pissed and your lawn ornaments endangered of being booted into orbit. Oxygen and imitrex please.

Thanks everyone, but let me explain something.  I don't have a cycle, I'm chronic, so it's inevitable that I am going to get hit in public at times, especially in the summer when I'm out and going places.

While I totally agree that my very first thought is the same as most of yours....."leave me the fuck alone and get out of my face and stop asking me questions".....that's probably not the smarest thing I could do when confronted with a Highway Patrol guy standing in back of me in line for coffee last week.  Tears were streaming down my face, head down, swaying back and forth a little, praying that the girl making my espresso would hurry the fuck up.......and this cop is giving me the LOOK.......The one that says, "I wonder if I should give her a breath-alizer""

So situations like that is what prompted this card thing.

Also, it seems to me that if I were ever to go to the ER, it could be helpful there also, especially if it was signed by my DR.

     Love you all.   Linda
