Thank you and maybe a little help!

Hi all:

First off, thanks to whoever runs this site, it really is fantastic -- it feels good to know that there are other people out there who know exactly what I am going through.

My name is Adam; I am CH sufferer, having my 3rd attack in 10 years.  First one came in '94 and went undiagnosed.  Thankfully when I had my second attack in '98 I found Imitrex, which made them literary disappear for five years.  Currently I am on day 18 of 2-5 attack per day cluster.  Problem is that I now have a heart condition that prohibits the use of Imitirx.

Has anyone been in the same situation and found relief for the onset?  I have tired high dose of Advil, Indomethacin, Vicodin, and acupuncture w/ herbal medicine, none of which really helped at all. Now I am on Dpeakote and rented an oxygen tank today.  I’m sort of optimistic but, as I bet you all are, I am always open to suggestions.

By the way, the guy I got my oxygen tank from today said that he has been getting a lot of calls lately for CH's and made a reference to the season and allergies -- that make sense to anyone?

Look forward to chatting with you all about our unfortunate condition.

My best,

Adam-

Welcome Adam,

Allergies?....Nah, seasonable most likely with some.

Make sure you have a non-rebreather mask with the 02 it makes all the difference.

If you have any questions about 02 just email me, for some reason people here think im the 02 guru.....check out the 02 post at the top of the board.

Hey Adam, good to see you got yourself some O2. Do you have a NON-rebreather mask and know to set your regulator at 8 liters p/minute or higher? If not, you do now. Smiley
Are you taking any preventatives? Verapamil alone works pretty well for episodics.
There's a wealth of information at those buttons to your left and at OUCH (which also is one of those buttons).
Also, and not that it matters, I don't think the Imitrex ended your last cycle for you. It sounds like your cycle just ended on its own. Imitrex only aborts attacks for some people.
Also, and because it does matter for communication purposes, attacks are the individual episodes. Cycles are the length of period from when the first attack comes to when the last attack leaves before remission (It has a different meaning for chronics but I'm sure you'll pick up on that in time and I don't want to get too confusing here).
Welcome to the sh1thouse. I hope you brought your boots. Smiley

Depakote would be the preventative. As far as the mask, I definitely got the wrong one.  I am going to check out the non-breather tommorow.

I am the only one who feels like grabbing the tank on every little tingle of the eye?

Welcome to the board Adam.  No, your'e not the only one who wants to grab that tank and the slighest touch of pain.  Actually the O2 worked much better for me the earlier I caught the headache.  So just keep grabbing that tank when ya need it.  You sound like you've got it pretty much under control.  Read around the site, lots of good info here.  And again, Welcome !

I didn't catch the Depakote on first read. You're right.
 Good luck.
