Questions about those who have the Clustermasx
« on: Dec 28th, 2005, 11:33am »

First question, do you use the mask or the mouthpiece?

Second question, what is the quickest time you've aborted an attack?

Third question, do you use the long or the short hose?

Last question, do you breathe slowly and deep and exhale slowly or do you breathe like you normally would?

Thank you!

Hi Mel,
I use the mask because I can't breathe solely through my mouth, even when my nose is blocked I have to be able to..

I usually abort in 5-7 minutes. I have aborted even faster but I usually stay on the o2 for a few minutes after just to calm down again.

I use the shorter hose, the one and only time I used the longer one I trod on it and nearly suffocated myself, wasn't able to think why I couldn't breathe.. it was only when I staggered and got off the hose that I realised what I'd done! (not everyone is as useless as me though!)

I use a combination of deeper breaths and trying to breath at my usual rate, I have a tendency to panic so I try and count, so that I breathe in and out for a count of at least four (I aim for seven) to stop me from panicking.

Hope this helps a bit
Helen

I've only had the opportunity to use it once. It took only 3 1/2 minutes of as normal-as-possible breaths, using the mask (not the mountpiece) on the long hose. (Short hose makes me think of the scene in "Fat Greek Wedding" when she is in the travel agency speaking on the phone and the cord comes up short as she is walking away). Hoping that 3 1/2 minutes isn't a fluke. how cool would that be?

Thank you Helen.

Also, one more question for everyone, do you breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth; in through the mouth out through the nose; in through the mouth out through the mouth; or in through the nose, out through the nose?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get the best possible effect out of it.

I just attached it to my old hose.
How about we just call it average white guy hose laugh
Seriously..........

The use of the mask has aborted hits in a little over 5 minutes. That is as quick as Jabs ever were.

I usually can not breathe through the nose though I try.

I try to breathe normally and deeply.

I use the mask. Time for me varies because  I'm often meegraing too.  I set a 10-15 minute limit.

I use the longer hose... more mobility.

My nose is usually too stuffy...can't breathe through it.

I try to breathe normally. Sometimes I don't start that way and I count breaths, like when I meditate,  so I can try to end up that way.

I have only had the c-masx for a few days but have found the mouthpiece quite effective in three to five minutes using the small bag at 15 lpm. However, I have learned when my CHs are coming and hit them early. I have yet to find out what the result will be on a Kip7 wake-me-upper.

I am using my old hose at this point. I take deep breaths, hold a sec, and then exhale all through my mouth. If I let myself panic my breathing becomes shallow and the O2 is then ineffective. I have to pay close attention to what I am doing and stay FOCUSED.

Hiya, Ben told me that it didn't matter which way round you breathed it in and that the important thing was just to breathe in 100% 02. I used to be greedy and guzzle it but its more effective if you just breathe 'normally'. Hope this helps.  Smiley

I use a demand regulator, I completely exhale and then breathe the 02 in until I'm filled up to my tippy toes..(a very technical medical description I know)....Then I hold it for about 10 seconds and do it again. If it's gonna stop the HA it works in less then 10 minutes. Occasionally as short as 5 but normally closer to 10. Even when it doesn't stop the head ache, it'll take it down 2 or 3 clicks so I can bear it. With the demand regulator I only breathe in through the mouth cuz it's not a mask. Hope this helps, wish you peace and a pain free new year.

Hey there Mel.....how's it going for you?  Had to respond to this thread.....02 is my favorite thing... Grin.

First question, do you use the mask or the mouthpiece?

I use the mask.  With the old masks, I have been known to rip the mask off and stick the tubing in my mouth.

Second question, what is the quickest time you've aborted an attack?

02 used to work faster for me than it does now.  Three minutes is probably the fastest.

Third question, do you use the long or the short hose?

There were two hoses?

Last question, do you breathe slowly and deep and exhale slowly or do you breathe like you normally would?

I suck all the air I can get as fast as I can get it.  The slow and easy or breathe normally don't work for me.  If I do it that way....I ramp up fast.

I have a regulator now (thanks to RJ), that goes to 25lpm.  I crank that baby up high so the bag nevers empties, as the 02 starts working, I'll turn it down some.

One thing I also do while on the 02 is visualize the 02 working.  I know this sounds stupid, but it keeps me focused (as does the breathing).  I just visualize the 02 filling the painful part of my head....and then the pain flowing out with each exhale.  Don't know if it helps the ch or not, but it sure helps to control any panic tendencies from an attack.

Love,
T
