Imitrex Expiry Date

Has anyone had any experience using Imitrex (injectable) that's past its expiry date? All I had available earlier was a dose 2 years past its exp. date; I used it anyway, and it seemed to work fine. As I have a few more, I wonder about the safety/effectiveness before laying out the $$$ for fresh stock, since my insurance has cancelled me on this particular drug.....which, of course, is the only one that seems to help.

It is fine. You can also split the doses so that you get more uses out of one syringe. Go to the link on the menu bar that says imitrex tip and learn a wonderful trick

Thanx, yes, I'm already halfing my shots. But I'm worried about the drug being unsafe after Expiry Date.........I've got about a dozen in the cupboard, from 2 to 3 years past expiry.

There have been many reports here of people using trex past the expiration date, some as much as five years.

According to my doc ... except for certain disease-specific drugs for cardiac or cancer problems, most are good at least 8-10 years past their expiration dates. I've used Trex 3 years past with the same excellent results. Just make sure it's stored in a cool, dark cabinet somewhere. The worse that can happen is that it might lose a little effectiveness - however, it never becomes toxic or dangerous. PF Wishes, Kris

Thanx one an all for the great information. That's one less "headache" to worry about!! (Pun intended). Now if only the weather holds for the weekend, so I can get one last bike ride in before winter storage, this may turn out to be a pretty good week after all! Thanx again. Best wishes for PF for all.
