Today my doc gave me a TOTALLY new one. Has anyone heard of or tried Nifedipine? According to the PDR, it's a calcium channel blocker in the same family as verapamil. Anyone who has tried this, I am concerened about edema, as that was what caused me to stop using verapamil.

I was put on Nifedepine for my blood pressure- to slow my heart rate actually- after about 40 days I started having heart "vibrations" which would wake me out of a dead sleep, and also the entire interior wall of my left chest would be incredibly itchy. Drove me nuts- also experienced edema in my legs to the point of numbness in my left leg- I got off that real quick- be carefully watchful of yourself and go back to the doc with anything unusual. annette

Vibrations? Can you describe that a little more for me? Sounds unpleasant...

I would wake suddenly and my heart would actually feel like it was vibrating, twitching. It happened mostly at night only, like maybe my resting heart rate was sooooooo slow it was almost stopping??? I don't know, but the doc took me off it as soon as I mentioned it to him, no fooling around with dosage or anything. Annette

Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker, so it is reasonable to assume it may help. But verapamil is the proven calcium channel blocker when it comes to cluster headaches.

nifedipine was one of the standards (like verapamil is now) 25 years ago. Didn't work for me then, but maybe it's like verapamil and requires a rather large dose.
