Anyone here take fioricet for the clusters? I know that most pain meds dont help clusters or migraines, but they say fioricet is made for that. It contains Asparin, caffeine, codene and another drug that starts with a B. Anyone have success with this? Thanks & PF wishes BMonee

I've tried both. Neither one helped. They work for migraines, I'm told.

I was 'scribed them back in the mid 90's when I had no prevents and not enough trex. I think generic was called esgic, which they stopped making. No codeine but had the butalbital. Helped for the first diagnosed episode but then stopped working, no matter how many I took. It prompted me real fast to start looking harder for a prevent then.

| In the 80s and 90s it was all I had. Might help with a shadow but thats about it.

Didn't do a thing for me. Be careful with it too. Barbituates can be addicting and if you find it helping guess what could happen

Once upon a time Fioricet was my only prescribed prevent/abortive but like everything else it didn't help. Plus the codeine tore up my stomach pretty good. Jim

Hi I have suffered clusters for about 17 years now and my doc put me on fiourinal with codeine a few years back. I really don't think they do much, maybe help to break my cycle earlier. I know they mess up my stomache for about two weeks after I take them. So I just don't take them. I am in the process of having to switch to a new doctor mine is retiring. So now I get to try and educate another, he says he has dealt alittle with clusters. Doesn't sound promising. Hope you get some relieve soon.

| I don't think so. I think they are caused by tightened muscles in the neck/shoulders which put pressure on or irritate nerves. That's why the butalbital, a sedative/barbituate, helps.

Well, I'm gonna buck the tide here and say that for me, in the early stages of a cycle and the waning stages of a cycle the Fiorinal C (with codeine) always worked pretty well as long as I took one (or sometimes two) at the VERY FIRST SIGNS of an impending CH, and as long as the CH was no stronger than Kip 6 to Kip 7 range. But once my cycle was firmly established and I was getting multiple Kip 8 and Kip 9 CH per day, the Fiorinal stopped working completely. I mean it wouldn't even dull the edge of them. It was about as effective as eating M&Ms. pinky
