Saw neuro...new med

Saw the neuro today. He's back to agreeing I have clusters. I think we were having a communicaitn problem. Anyway, he gave me a trial run of Keppra. Another seizure med. Anybody heard of it or tried it? It is not supposed to have the cognitive effects of Topamax. Guess it's another waiting game. Now if I could just sleep.

Hi kimmeesue.. I hope the new med help to get you PF.... I just tapered off Depakote ER last week, I have no experience with Keppra, but it sounds familiar... How much is your dose ? My Dr wants me to start Lithuim, but I am trying to hold off starting it, from what I understand Lithuim has alot of side effects... Good Luck... I hope it works... PFDAN's to You Charlie

HI Kim, I've been on Keppra. Make sure you are slowly increasng it and that you read all of the side effects, so if they happen you can report them. Sometimes it's called "the nightmare drug" because it can cause crazy dreams. Be very careful as to what you take with it. In the beginning i thought it worked for me..but toward the end it was bad. It caused severe depression and nightmares. I took if from fall of 2002 to the fall of 2004. It was given to me for intractable migraines at first because my clusters weren't diagnosed separately yet. I probably should have stopped it way before that, but I was chicken to make any med adjustments. In the beginning it did help my sleep because i took it before bed. here's one thread I found: http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action= display;num=1107084040;start=3#3 One of the biggest problems i found while taking it was it's interactions with a lot of other things. it was very hard for me, who is very sensitive to meds, to take meds for simple things such as a cold because of interactions and my other docs not knowing much about this "new" med at that time. Feel free to PM me if you would like more info ..I did keep a pretty extensive journal at that time. Be well and PF! -lionsound

kim, so far it doesn't look like Helen's having any language problems, she just called galaxy1 (troll) a "dicksplat" on the other thread. That makes her a gifted linguist, even on Topomax. Go helen!!!

Oh my gosh! This doesn't look very promising. I already have very vivid dreams which I think is exacerbated by the melatonin. Now nighmares? What next? I am always very careful of making sure all of my doctors know all of my RX ever since I ended up in the ER psyching out due to seratonin syndrome. The thingd we go through just to have a relatively normal quality of life. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will keep close watch on my reactions and keep you posted.
