On Friday night 6/17 started 25mg of Topamax and it is just holding the beast back up untill last night about 9pm the beast was trying to get out. Does anyone take anyother pain meds and what is the max dose of Topamax 200mg? Any other ideas would help.

Hi Rob. I can't help you with Topamax info, I've never used it. Have you been reading the boards? There are many preventative and abortive meds, there's oxygen to abort and there are alternative treatments as well. Is Topamax all that you're using now? Have you tried any other meds? Have you tried oxygen? Tell us more. ~nani

I do not know of anyone else, but last week when I saw my GP Dr, for my CH, I told him that I was getting them in the middle of the night (12-1 am) and they were lasting about 90 minutes. I told him I tried 1/50mg ULTRAM and it took the BEAST away. I thought the ULTRAM was a narcodic, but I was told no, its a little different. Well it worked for about 2 weeks, but now I have to take 2/50mg ULTRAMS & 2 Tylonal, just to put some distance between me & the BEAST. So it did not last long. The only thing that I have really noticed is that my CH's just keeps changing, what works one time, might not work the next time. My GP Dr could not believe this, but I found that alot of people here are that way.. Just do not give up trying to find something to use to Prevent and something to Abort the CH's, cause it may take some time. But your life will be happier in the long run. PF days to ALL !!!

Topomax dosage: Quote:Migraine The recommended total daily dose of TOPAMAX® as treatment for prophylaxis of migraine headache is 100 mg/day administered in two divided doses. The recommended titration rate for topiramate for migraine prophylaxis to 100 mg/day is: Morning Dose Evening Dose Week 1 None 25 mg Week 2 25 mg 25 mg Week 3 25 mg 50 mg Week 4 50 mg 50 mg Dose and titration rate should be guided by clinical outcome. If required, longer intervals between dose adjustments can be used. |
| For clusters your doc may ramp you faster. People using it for siezures go as high as 400mg/day. Reading a little further I see they sometimes have people as high as 1,600 mg/day (must be what Hub is on).

Topomax made me dumber than a bag of hammers. I couldn't complete a coherent thought. It got so bad, my wife took my car keys away. I was dangerous on the road, because I would just stare off into space at times totally oblivious to what I was doing. The day she took my keys, I nearly rear-ended the vehicle in front of me three times in just a few miles. It also made the attacks worse and more frequent.

Robzilla, do you take topamax for the pain? I used it as a preventative for few weeks. In my case it did not work at all, I had 24/7 ch for 6 days and after 2 PF days I had 11 painful attacks/day. And the side effects!!! They don't call topamax dopeymax for nothing! It was awful. I went back to my doc and luckily she understood that I couldn't continue with it.

I used toptmax for about six months. It helped at first then the CH came back when we upped to dosage there was no change except I almost forgot who I was! Like others said it turns you into Dopey. As for the painkillers, I have had to go to the ER many times for Dilaudid because after so much trex nothing else works for me. Sometimes O2 and even then the Dilaudid just masks it, doesn't really stop it. Good Luck, BF
