I started taking Topamax 4 days ago and when I went to drink a Coke last night it tasted flat.I poured it out and opened another one,it tasted the same also.At work today I bought a Dr. Pepper out of a machine and it tasted bad also.I realized it was the Topamax that was making everything taste funny. Is this normal? How long will this last. Thanks for any input.

Topamax (also called "Dopeymax" around here) has lots of side effects. The dumb feeling, confusion, and ass taste was all minor compared to the kidney stones I got, twice, from this drug. About 1 in 50 adults taking Topamax have developed kidney stones. They are more common in men and in those who have had them before. They also may be more likely to occur if Diamox (acetazolamide) or Zonegran (zonisamide) is also taken or if the ketogenic diet (a special diet sometimes used to control seizures in children) is followed. Topamax therefore should be used cautiously in people taking Diamox or Zonegran or using the ketogenic diet. To help prevent kidney stones, drink plenty of water, juice, or other fluids (8 glasses every day for adults). Sharp pains in your side or lower back may signal the onset of a kidney stone. Consult a doctor immediately or go to the emergency room. Unsolved

I didn't have any problems when I took it in low doses, but when I went up to 100mg I didn't know my butt from 3rd base. I couldn't remember anything! Anyways it wasn't helping so I went off. Good luck! BF

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

You read it all above. Food tastes like A$$, your memory goes, and you can't add 2 + 2 anymore. For many it's like "Night of the Living Dead" - and you're one of the zombies. However, it has helped some. In other words, you've got to balance the side effects against the good. If there isn't any good, say goodbye to Dopeymax. Kris
