Magnesium

Hi All,

I've had clusters in seasons for about 12 years. I'd get around 3-5 a week.

I found that KFC chips would make one go away in a matter of minutes.

After examining the ingredients (glad it wasn't the 11 secret ones) It turns out that it was all the magnesium in the salt.

What i've done in this latest season is everytime I feel an attack start, I'd take 2000mg of Magnesium.  Each time the attack is gone within 5 minutes, and I go much longer before it comes back.  It is like one second I am in agony, and then the next the pain has been switched off.

This may not work for you, but try it, if it does work, it is a lot cheaper than most pain killers and probably a lot better for you.

Mathew.

I've read before that magnesium can help with ch attacks. I've been eating a 350mg magnesium tablet every day since then... Smiley

When I ran out of my fave brand once, I got terrible ch attack that day! Now I make sure I never run out of them, just in case. As a chronic I don't like to take any chances... Wink

Mathew, I hope magnesium keeps on working for you!!! Smiley

Best wishes,
Sandie

Mathew,

I've been experimenting with high doses of Magnesium, and I do better when I take 1200-1500mg per day. Trouble is, I can only take such a high dose for a few days at a time before my intestines decide they won't hold anything  Shocked. When I back down the dose, my CH's start ramping up, so I repeat the process.

Is it really the Magnesium or am I just becoming more cyclic instead of pure chronic? Time will tell, but I’m going to keep taking it.

Marc, you could try taking a bit of calcium with the magnesium (or even take a Tums).  The calcium has a binding effect that kind of counteracts the...uh...loosening effect of the Magnesium.  Not sure about there, but you can get CalMag combination at most drugstores here.  Might be worth a shot.  Either that, or eat a lotta cheese. Two other tips that may minimize the laxative effects of magnesium:

1) used chelated magnesium instead of the cheaper magnesium oxide
2) Magnesium can be absorbed through the skin in significant amounts - take an epsom salt bath.
