had cyber knife at stanford on feb 8, still on meds, very few headaches, and very mild, haven't had one in ten days, will go of meds soon, that will be the real test, will keep you posted, let me know if you have ????"s i'm afraid to say that it is working, but i think that it might it be. i am a chronic 'ch' , usually every night for the past 20 years, i have only had nine ha's since feb 8, only two were killers, the rest were very mild, took O2 and they subsided. stanford has never done this before for CHA'S , this procedure is usually confined to people with brain tumors and other maladys not related to headaches. hope this is the answer , let me know if you have questions, either through this site or email me at brancyk@sbcglobal.net

| Well of course we have questions, ya nit. I'm not sure what the "cyber knife" involved, but it musta been more than extra sprinkles at the local Dairy Queen. What _exactly_ did they do? (Or did I miss something?) RJ

His name is RJ, not Dick. Is this surgery the same as gamma knife surgery? PS you may want to take your phone number off and just send him a pM with it. Keeps the crazies off your phone line.

Gamma knife surgery is real. There are threads on it. I'm still not sure if he's talking about the same thing.

| Its real. A rather drastic treatment for chronics who do not respond to treatments involving medication.

the cyberknife is like the gamma knife, but different in some significant ways. they are both radiosurgical systems meaning they both use beams of radiation to create a lesion at a focal point. the cyberknife (made by accuray), like related systems (such as the novalis from brainlab, the xknife from radionics, etc.), is a linear accelerator ("LINAC". these use high energy x-rays to make the lesion. the gamma knife uses gamma radiation. the important point is that the use of linac systems to treat craniofacial pain has hardly been studied at all. this is the first case of linac treatment for CH i've heard of, and there weren't any results i found in a pubmed search. even for a much more thoroughly studied craniofacial pain disease--trigeminal neuralgia--there is very little research. it's hard to find unbiased info on this topic as it's seen as a "hot new technology," but www.irsa.org seems to be relatively fair and balanced. -andrew
