nasal cat scan

My nero doc had me get a cat scan for my nose because the right side,(my CH side) is always clogged or not drawing proper air. I never had this problem untill my headaches started 4 years ago.
The result of the test showed some buildup in the nose.(not bugers Wink) He has an appointment set for me with a ear, nose and throat specialist.
My ? is< What procedure am in in store for if he must do something medicaly to repair the nostril?
By the way I have been bumped up to 720mg of verapimil from my original dose of 240mg when my treatment started feb,3rd.
My headbanger 10s have been redused to minimalm, but I had been getting alot of 5-6s when Im trying to sleep. Ive already tried melatonin, it did not like me. One thing I learned is alcahol is a trigger for me and even having my trex shots, Its not worth the trouble to catch a buzz. Gosh and I had hope I could enjoy a nightcapper once in awhile. Grin
     Thanks for you help

If the nasal congestion is a constant, that's one issue, but if only during an attack--that's normal with cluster. I'd be cautious about any surgical repair until you have a good explanation of how he thinks this is linked to cluster.

Alcohol! Must avoid it when in an active cluster period. We all recognize it as a major trigger.

You may have to increase the Verap even higher or try another med. Med lit has reported some decrease in effectiveness for some folks; can't explain why but it happens regularly with a variety of cluster meds.

Print and read if you have not done so:

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH.  (2002)

Nasal congestion is symptomatic of CH.

I'd get a second opinion on this one.

Would like to ask what the result was from seeing the ENT doc.  Friend with CH just got in minor auto accident, but when x-rays were taken of his jaw, he was told he had a "cloud" in the sinus and should see his own doc for it.  He's made the appt, but is worried about what it might be.

Thanks,

No S man, I would like to enjoy a beer every once in a while too, but it's about a 95% trigger for me.
I also had a CT done on my head, not sure if the nostrils were in that scan, but it came back clean.  Lots of people in here have also said their CH is not caused by anything that can be picked up in a scan.
I know you said that melatonin didnt like you, but it works so well for so many.  Were you puking and stuff?  are you alergic?
I mix mine with dyphenhydramine, that seems to keep my left nostril from clogging and leaking and even keeps my eye from tearing badly.  I get several CHs per night, some up to 8 or so, but my nose isnt very stuffed and my eye isnt dripping down my face.
u think its worth trying again?
PF wishes man, were all here for you!!!

From what I heard, any sinus type sugery is a waste of time. If you are having more problems with it without the clusters it may be something to look into. Same thing goes with tooth extractions. It's a waste of time and probably a good tooth.

Alcohol is a big no no.  I love margaritas, so it really sucks.
Good luck with whatever you do.

I don't think I have had a drink in 10 or more years...

I saw an ENT after I was diagnosed with clusterheadaches, and ending up having rhinoplasty, to "correct" something pressing on an optic nerve and the deviated septum (off center septum), and was keeping me from breathing on the right side.  Same as you, I did not have the problem until I had the clusters.  It STAYS plugged during clusters.

Try something, if you ever are pain free, anyway.  You know how if your nose is plugged on one side, and you roll over to the other side and it drains to that side?  During clusters, it does not move.  BUT, the thing that differs is when I DON'T have clusters it still operates properly.  Simple snot test there, but to me, that makes it cluster specific.

The surgery I had hurt like he##, and it did not give me significant relief.  My feeling, considering what happened to me and least two other friends I have, if you go to an ENT, they can find something to operate on, because your sinuses are not necessarily symmetrical, your septum in your nose is not necessarily symmetrical, and they will show you a scan or xray, and how one side is not like the other, and suggest surgery.

If you had some sort of diagnostics, I would want them to show it to me, and explain it, and definitely get a second opinion from a CH neurologist about if your congestion is typical in CH.

Good luck with everything.  CH hurt bad enough, you don't need that surgery on top of it...
