Just a quick question regarding Maxalt Quick Melt (sublingual) -- anyone have any experience with the drug.. It is usually an effective abortive? If so, how long does it normally take to work? Thanks for any info!! PFDANs to All !! Tony

Maxalt is another Triptan drug. I tried it years ago and it didn't help me. I believe that there are a few people here that use it regularly as an abortive... Unsolved PS. I use Imitrex

I used to take Maxalt as an abortive. Worked like magic within 10-15 minutes... I'd get a PF night but the next day always sucked... You get rebound headaches from it and can't take it more than twice a week... I wouldn't suggest it to anyone... Plus, it still cost me 30 bucks (with insurance) for only 6 pills

I've taken Maxalt MLT tabs for years for my migraines. It takes too long to start working to use for my CH. However, when I'm getting hit at the same times around the clock, a few times I've taken it about 30 minutes before I'm due to get hit, and stopped a couple of hits or made them much less intense, when I didn't have any trex. (yeah, I know about using two triptans... DON'T DO IT. I was under a doc's supervision...)

Thanks for the info! I'm scheduled to see a Neuro this coming week.... think I'll opt out of the Imitrex tabs and see if I can get the injectable version ... Preferably, I'm leaning more toward O2 ... don't like drugs... (will make an exception for the verapamil!!!)

Maxalt is my abortive. It works wonders quickly. It keeps me PF rest of the day, but new HAs come on the next day.

| Thanks for the tip Sandie! I see the Neuro later this week and will ask him about imitrex injectables or preferably O2 as an abortive. When you say new HAs the next day... are they rebound from the Maxalt ?

| Don't "lean" towards O2. Get it ASAP. The other meds you can tweak and fool around with as time goes by. O2 is a first order of business item. It's a non-negotiable point. RJ

Thanks for the tip RJ and Sean. The doc is a specialist in HAs of all flavors and should know the drill ... if not, I'll make sure and ask the right questions!! While the meds have helped this cycle... they do seem to have a prolonging effect in terms of the general cycle length... don't like that so much! Wishing you all PFDANs! Tony

I tried the Maxalt "melts" a few years ago when they first came out as an alternative to the Imigran inj. I had tried the imigran pills and nasal spray previously as a cheaper and more convenient alt to inj. Both were useless. My Doc was raving about the Maxalt as thenew miracle so I took his advice and got 6 to try. They did bugger all for my CH and after the 4th try I went back to the injection. On the last attempt my CH got so bad I was violently sick. Just afte I geve myself an inj and 10 mins later the pain was gone. Give me the Trex anyday - Maxalt sucks. It might be a great migraine reliever but does it nothing for my CH John

| Pretty darn good suggestion. Postives - cheaper, cleaner, no side affects Negatives - takes a bit longer to work sometimes, won't fit in your pocket.
