too many meds?

My husband tapered off the prednisone last week. Verapamil has been upped to 240mgs 2 x day. Also takes Topamax 100mg @ bedtime. 80mgs of Diovan in the morning, which he has taken for several years w/ no problems. His coordination is now awful-walks like a 90 year old man. Can no longer do cross word puzzles or anything of that sort. Wants to sleep all the time. I have been calling neuro since last Wed. to get in & see about adjusting meds & they will see us tomorrow morning (after I said we'd just come & sit until they saw us). Has Verapamil affected anyone else like this or could it be the topamax? All doc seems to care about is headaches are gone, but they seemed to peak at Xmas, so cycle could be over.

In one word - Topomax! Have never taken it, but many here have terrible side effects from it - spaciness, inability to focus, sleeping all the time, staring into space at nothing, etc. I'm still trying to figure out why docs like prescribing this particular med so much. Kris

Topamax!!! A couple weeks on that and it brought me from an articulate teacher to >>absent minded>>> to completely lost in not just my profession but Life!!! I got off of it as quick as I was allowed to (have to taper off) and then it took a couple of weeks to regain clarity........ Those who say that it is helpful with there HA also seem to mention being stupified or depressed....... I personally would rather have pain over having mental mush!! Wishing you and your hubby luck!! I agree, sounds like the handiwork of topamax. I became a zombie when I was taking it! I forgot where I was going, I walked very slowly and I had a regular HA 24/7 for 4 days...Then CH came back in more intense form than ever. Luckily my doc understood that I have to change medication. I hope you'll find a working combo for you husband! Good luck with the doc.
