Prednisone/Cortisone Question

Why are we prescribed Prednisone as opposed to another corticosteroid that has no side-effects or much less side effects than Prednisone long-term use? Why not Cortisone? They're both in the same family of steroids. Or has cortisone proven to be worse? So I guess what I'm asking is why only Prednisone? Is this the only corticosteroid that has proven to break cluster cycles or ease a cycle until preventatives kick in? Just curious and confused. Langa

From: Robbins, Management of Headache and Headache Medications, 2nd ed. He doesn't make any comparative comments about side effects but notes that hydrocortisone has fast onset but has a shorter half-life compared to the other forms. So, longer half-life should translate into longer period of action.

Seagulls, the neighbor's cat, that cute elephant at the local zoo .... all they need is a little ketchup! I remember driving 10 miles one morning at 3:00 am to find a Heath Bar - remember those? Kris
