After just reading the subject, I can safely say that you seek Don's opinion.

Seriously, never heard of a common CH treatment that came in that form.  And some of us frown on oral treatments... too slow... though the folks taking Zomig tabs seem pretty happy.

I've had a prescription for Indomethacin in suppository form.  It doesn't do much for CH, but apparently works well for CPH  (chronic paroxysmal hemicrania), which has symptoms similar to CH.    Haven't heard of CH "proper" meds in suppository form.

I haven't either, although I do remember my mother getting some kind of narcotic suppository for migraine headaches.

I think they also made ergotamine suppositories.

They make dilaudid (sp?) suppositories for cancer patients.  Had them for my mom last couple months of her life (91')
Assume (do not know) would fall into category of "narcotics generally don't work for CH"
Curious what compound they've prescribed . . . sure you'll let us know.

     Be safe.

Bob P has got it. This is an effective mechanism for getting meds into the body quickly. In ancient Egypt, docs used rolled tobacco (a cigar, in effect) as a form of anesthesia, in just this manner. (They were also adept at using a club to induce unconsciousness before surgery--just enough, not too much!)

And we complain about modern medicine.....

Cafergot can cause nausea so the suppositories bypass that side effect, in addition to be absorbed through the intestinal wall more quickly.

Also, I see from your other post that FireBrix moved back here that the doc gave you trex and cafergot butt bullets.  Do not use them within 24 hours of each other!

Cafergot butt bullets! crackup  Bob, you slay me!

Seriously though mixing triptans with each other or with ergotamine based meds is dangerous within 24 hours of each other.  It can cause serious cardiac problems.
