Cannabis effects?

Does anyone here know if cannabis has an effect at all on CH's? Do people that smoke weed have more problems? My doc said that tobacco and alcohol have negative effects on CH and I was wondering if cannabis has an effect. Thanks and PF wishes BMonee

I believe there are a number of threads here about CH and how Pot affects them. If memory serves - most people get pretty hard rebound HA's or it serves as a trigger for a full-blown CHA. I'm not sure any have found it to be an abortive. I'd suggest a search of the archives. Kris

| I'd suppose if it did, you'd have read much more about it on this "med and treatment" board here. Hard to find a thread that mentions it. I'd say "no effect" summing its use as a preventative or abortive. Kevin M

I've seen it come up now and then...I think I agree that some found it a trigger, others said no effect either way. Can't remember anyone saying it helps.

I have read one or two people claim it helps CH. I recall a post where someone said that it didn't abort the headache but made it a lot funnier??? The much more common experience is that it makes CH worse (while in cycle) which has been my experience. on Jan 17th, 2005, 9:18pm, BMoneeTheMoneeMan wrote: Do people that smoke weed have more problems? |
| Yes, legal problems, maybe a shorter attention span... In reference to CH though, there's no reason to think that smoking cannabis out of cycle will make the CH worse in the long run...If that was what you were asking. Of course there's no research on the subject. Jesse

It doesn't seem to effect my CH one way or the other but it does help me relax and return to life AFTER a bad one.

Have tried while in cycle and yes, unfortunately it did trigger me and a pretty intense couple at that. Another well thought out plan that didn't work for me.

As I recall from a time long ago and far away, cannabis can blunt the effects hallucinogenic drugs, take some of the rougher edges off the trip. (One of the reasons the hippies, etc., smoked so much grass in the '60's.) Have any of the psilocybin users tried cannabis for this purpose during their treatments?

Well, I used to have a landlady who liked to smoke her pot... a lot. I have never tried it, just the smoke from her doses was enough to give me painful CHs...

Definate TRIGGER!!! But!! if you already have a really bad headache going, it will help ease the pain slightly, for me at least. Then I discovered what you could do with a tank of welding oxygen, it worked every time.

I'm a regular smoker, but have found that during a cluster cycle, I should lay off until the cycle is over. It definitely triggers CH for me (CH kicks in as soon as the cannabis effect leaves).

I think what we have here is the same old thing, no clear answer because we all react differantly to medications. Nothing seems to work for everybody. Smoking is not a trigger for me. However; I did not indulge when I was taking triptans, beta blockers or Topamax, for fear of a conflict. And by the way, if you are taking Topamax you don't need anything else to get you stoned. There are times when you need something to relieve the worry and depression with CH and I feel smoking can improve ones outlook temporarily----and I too have wondered about the alternitive treatment and if cannabis would help if anxiety set in during a dose???
