Sleeping Pills?

I have been a Clusterhead for 15 years, and with each attack I try to learn as much as I can. Normally I just read what everyone has to say and quietly gather my data, but I have not been able to find any information about my current item of study, which is sleeping pills. Over the years I have found that my attacks seems to hit when my brain enters REM. Since sleeping pills can effect the REM stage I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them.

Many swear by Melatonin. 3 - 9 mg before bedtime. There are supposed to be drugs that will enable you to skip the REM phase ... but none has worked for me. Unsolved

Melatonin didn't work for me but the over the counter sleep aids help with the reduction of night time hits.

Some have good results with dramamine (dimenhydrinate), an OTC motion sickness pill. It keeps away the REM sleep, and with that the nightly hits. Dramamine comes with or without caffeine, choose the one you prefer. PFNADs, Ueli

| It's helped me in the past. Just get an overwhelming desire to go sit in a boat.

My magic formula consisted of 25mg OTC Benedryl plus 9mg Melatonin. Helped me pass right by REM and everything else. Don't forget to set your alarm clock! Kris

| 6 mg melatonin and 50-75 mgs benedryl for me... thinking of upping it to 9 though, no 3am hit but have begun to wake up again at that time... not a good sign for me... well see this weekend when I can experiment and not jepordize maybe being late for work.

If you do have the "typical" wake you up in the middle of the night horrors then.... Melatonin might be a savior. Many of us (myself included) have found that taking 6-9mg (some take more) about a 1/2 hour to 45minutes prior to bed have Knocked out the night visits and can finally get sleep. Good luck! Eric
