I heard that Stadol is mentally addicting but not physically addicting. Anyone know if that is correct ?? Unsolved

personally I was physically addicted but not mentally. I asked the doc to take me off cause it stopped working, but in the past had terrible withdrawals after I was off. Felt like crap, shakey, getting weird zaps (can't describe it) So when I was on it again and went off it the doc gave me a patch to wear to help me get off it. I think it was an antianxiety drug, can't remember though, but it helped, when I got off the stadol with the patch I didn't have any "yucky" feelings Personally I feel stadol is good for short term use and that's it. Build up a tolerence incredibly fast.

Stadol used to be my only abortive before learning of triptans & 02. Personally I hate the stuff and cannot see how anyone could ever get mentally or physically hooked on it. All it ever did is knock me out cold for hours so I wouldn't feel the CH pain. I do keep some around in the event I ever run out of Trex though. Nasty stuff that Stadol. Just my 2 cents.

I used Stadol for years for my migraines. Worked great for the migraine. Didn't do anything for the CH. I was in a daze, hurting like a m*th*rf**k*r. And I couldn't move, I was too out of it. I never had a problem with dependency with it, although you can build up a tolerance to it pretty quickly. It does depress your breathing, so don't use more than directed. I was told to use two sprays. It's usually just one. And of course, take all the usual precautions while using it. It is synthetic morphine. Just lasts longer. It is nasty stuff. But if it works...

I used to use a bottle a week for 2 years for my ch. I had no problem quitting using it when I stopped using it. However, I did find that I keept needing more and more of it to be effective. It would turn my lips purple and make my breathing shallow and put me to sleep most of the time. My husband hated me on it. He didn't like the side effects.

| Ditto........plus it made me puke (added phenergan to the cocktail). and when I woke up I had a rebound meegraine and nasty side effects. I believe it can be both mentally and physically addicting...but that depends on who you are. I know someone who was seriously addicted in everyway and could barely stand up. Somehow though, Michael, I think you're made of stronger stuff and it wouldn't be a problem for you. Be well, lionsound

I have to use it when I need a break. I found that I add 1cc normal saline to the bottle when I get it and it doent hammer me so badly. For me I just sometimes dont get my CHs all the way knocked out with my Zomig. I have been using it for several years as needed only. I dont find it useful for any other thing than much needed relief. I have not had a problem with rebounds either. Good Vibes MYNM156

I used stadol for almost a year used it at work to keep me from going home only I used it too often loved the rush it gave me so I decided to get myself off it I would lie about breaking it by dropping it or someone stole it out of my car so I could get more than 1 bottle a month I was using 1 bottle a week I would open it and put in about 1/3 water just so I could use it more and longer so I finally said to my wifey that I was abusing it and just quit taking it with no withdraws BUT my neuro got me on the pain patch duragesic 25 ug/h for the chronic pain which I have been since Nov 1999 before that was only spring and fall for 16 years then next month 50 then next month 75 then another month 100 and with all the anti depression meds and panic attack meds the 100 was making me too lala so i am currently on the 75 ug/h and cut back on the depression meds so I can function daily BTW I am on SS disability because I cannot work and shouldnt but sometimes have to and try and do ok driving also my neuro allows me 2 10mg of morphine a month for break-thur pain any more really bad days or nights I have to go to ER which will not use narcotics anymore like they used to they give me a 4 different med cocktail per diamond headache clinics suggestions which works sometimes a couple of times they told me after 4th med would get into me by IV I would be sleeping for hours only to have me still sitting there or pacing talking my head off about it not working so most of time after 20 minutes of me rambling they send me home ok enough rambling from me and hope I gave you an insight of my dealing with stadol Terry

I was on it yrs ago it worked but the last time I used my heart started to pound so bad to this day I still wonder if I could have had a mild heart attack. I went to the dr the next day my heart still pounding I was sent for tests of all kinds they thought I had heart angina about a week later my heart finally stopped pounding super fast and the dr said everything was normal. I through out the bottle and wouldn't advise anyone to use it.

Stadol worked for a while for Steve but he did end up being mentally addicted to a degree. He told me that one day he was driving in his car and he took a spray. Right after he did it he said that he thought "Why did I do that? I don't even have a headache." So he threw his bottle of stadol out the window. I think a big part of it for him was that he became so scared of getting one of his clusters that he would take the medication (which was an abortive) even when he didn't have to. In that way, yes, he was mentally addicted. We also found that the generic stadol seemed to have many more side effects that the brand name. SO many people say there is no difference but let me tell you! My Stephen is the most sweet, mild tempered, patience filled person in the world, so much so that sometimes it drives me nuts, but when he was on the generic stadol he was the biggest grouch. He was mean and rude, he would get pissed off over nothing and would throw temper tantrums like he was five it was terrible. Overall, the brand name Stadol worked for a while, not to abort so much as releive, but now unless it's an injection from the ER it doesn't do much at all.
