Nimodipine?

A newbie, Jonathon He, in the Getting ta Know Ya message Board, today wrote that he has had good results with Nimodipine, which is a med I had not heard of. I looked it up and it is used to "treat symptoms resulting from a ruptured blood vessel in the brain (hemorrhage)," and also to treat migraine. Does anyone have any experience with this med?

The only personal experience I have with nimodipine is working with it in the lab (not Ch related). It is a calcium channel blocker like verapamil. As I recall most reports say it is inferior to verapamil for CH. If it works for him though...

My mom had to take it after brain surgery for an anyeurysm.
At well over $100 per pill I think I'd stick with verapimil.

If it is also called Nimotope (yes over $100. per pill) I also took it after brain surgery for a ruptured brain anuerysm. I did not start getting clusters till 3 months after that.

As much as the beast disrupts my life, as expensive as the meds and dr visits can be, etc., I must say that I would be willing to spend $100+/pill of this med IF it worked and it knocked the beast out of my head for a period of time. Thus, I will inquire next time I see my neuro. Thanks for the posts, folks.

Have you tried verapimil? Or O2 or triptans to abort?

I haven't looked up this drug specifically to read the pharmacology of it, but there are actually 3 different types of Calcium Channel Blockers, which might make sense as to why verapamil rules the cluster kingdom! Verapamil is a phenylalamine type Ca2+ channel blocker. I don't know if Nimodipine is anything like Nifedipine, but if it is, then it would work more on the blood vessels whereas Verapamil tends to have more of an effect on the heart and less of an effect on blood vessels.
Just subtle little chemistry differences that can make a big difference for us!

I tried Nefedipine, it did not work for me at all, have not tried verapamel, doing a little pred taper again to see if that helps.
