Melatonin is a brand new "drug" in the therapy of CH in Hungary and here is no experience or reference. My next episode is expected round Xmas. I take Melatonin 3 mg/night as a preventive. I was a good-sleeping formerly and I wake up about five times a night now but I'm reposeful when I get up. Is it connected with Melatonin? PF Steve

The studies reported in the U.S. are using 9-10mg per day as a preventive. Results are mixed as reported both in medical literature and on messages here. Interestingly, as a sleep aid a dose of 0.3mg has been shown, in one good study, as the most effective dose. At least in the U.S., melatonin is so inexpensive that it is worth a trial. (By the way, thanks for letting us share the Vizsla with you! I have a wonderful 3yr old male who brings great pleasure.)

I've been taking the Melentonin for about 3 wks now..9 mgs a night. It was helping me sleep for a while. But just last night I was awakened by 4 attacks.... Not that bad but just enough that I couldn't get back to bed and needed the o2 to get the edge off.......Steve

Individual response to melatonin varies. I usually take a small dose of melatonin (1 mg) a few nights a week when out of cycle. When a cycle is coming on, I do that every night to get my sleep back to normal, and up the dose somewhat. As far as side effects, it increases my recall of dreams (which means waking up during a dream).
