Imitrex reaction

Has anyone else had the experience of Imitrex making the headache worse?  I tried the Imitrex pill last week,  and had a 3 hour Kip 9 attack.

Just now I tried the Imitrex nasal spray on a Kip 8,  and within 4 minutes I am at Kip 9.  I think my body doesn't like Imitrex.  Cry

Now that's interesting.  The pain kept increasing for about 10 minutes and just now vanished in a split second.   I wonder how long the relief will last?

After the experience with the Imitrex pill, this feels almost too good to be true.  What a relief!  The first pain free moments in 3 days. If only there were some way to hoard this particular feeling. LOL!

I'm glad it finally worked for you. It took a few times for it to work for me too. Pills were always useless... Shots rule!

But I can't help but wonder how you could type at a "Kip 9"... Or even see the monitor... Or sit in the chair... Or form a sentence...

Glad you got something that works for you, Jamie!  Yeah a K9 has me raising such a ruckus that the wife will close the windows in the house.  During a K9 this past weekend, with no meds cuz I thought I would try a Zomig NS (didn't work) and couldn't take anything for 6 hours, I thought I was going to die.  Actually wanted to die.  Was walking into walls, the entertainment center, bashing head on the wall, floor, bed, O2 tank (that one felt the best).  But then again, everyones pain threshold is different.  A K9 to you may be a K7 to someone else.  The Kip scale is pretty good though.  Thought we were going to go to the ER, but remembered that they don't usually help, so I rode it out at home.  Wooo...fun.....

LOL.  I've been living with the pain without any meds for 8 weeks, so just having something to try is a relief, even when it doesn't work.  My fingers were flying on the keyboard so hard and fast I'm surprised I didn't break it.

I tried the Imitrex pill last week.  That didn't go so well. The nasal spray was better,  but the relief only lasted a couple of hours.  Plus,  I hated the side effects, which seemed to last 12-18 hours.  My stomach was unsettled,  and I felt jittery, like on a caffeine overdose.

My doctor seems unwilling to give me the injections, and even with any abort, he is very stingy.  Granted,  I'm getting free samples, so I don't want to be an ingrate,  but one abort per night when I am getting hit with 8-11 attacks per day seems cruel.

Tonight he gave me a sample of Relpax (eletriptan)  that contains 2 x 40 mg pills. I took one about a half hour ago, and it just starting to take the edge off a Kip 7.  It is nice to have a second pill in reserve.

I'm also looking into getting oxygen.  If I go the "legitimate" route,  it looks like it is going to be pretty pricey.  There is only one company that supplies oxygen here, for medical use or welding.  I think it is easy and cheap to get the welders oxygen, but I'm nervous about figuring out how to put the medical regulator on a welding tank. Or how to acquire all the equipment.

The Doc also gave me another Imitrex pill, and a sample of Amerge.  He said to try Relpax tonight, Amerge tomorrow, and the Imitrex again on Friday,  and to tell him which I like better. I want to try the Zomig nasal spray, too.

I'm wondering if I need to take a day between each medication.  Most of the triptans seem to come with a warning to not use if you have had a different triptan within 24 hours.

YES!!!!
 DO NOT MIX !!!!!!!!

I really don't know why this is but this is the rule. I don't know how different they all are chemically or if it is because of dosages but people have come pretty close to death by mixing. Take the advice and heed tha warning of the label!

Otherwise...good luck Smiley

get a new doctor!!
it is unethical for him/her to be "hesitant" for you to abort...

Hang in there!
