I have used imitrex shots since they first came out. They have been effective very rapidly for me...The only problem is my Doctor cut me back on taking so many. The last few nites, I have had some breakthrus again...and When I take the shot, it is taking alot longer for them to work...but the thing that is scaring me is I am having a STRANGE STRANGE feeling in my head I have never felt before. It is like I feel the blood vessels constricting or something in my head and I have to grab my head it hurts so bad. This is really scaring me...It is definetly something that has never happened before with the injections...any ideas? nancyc

Nancy, I am so sorry you are having breakthrough pain. I don't know what is going on but maybe you should see your dr and discuss it as soon as possible. I don't know that much about anyourisms but if the imitrix isn't working like it should and your head isn't feeling normal for a ch then maybe something else is going on. We have to be careful being on the patch. It can mask or cover the start of alot of different things because it blocks alot of our pain that would normally be there to warn us that something is not right. I don't mean to scare you but I love you and I don't want to see anything bad happen to you either.

Nancy, My shot is taking longer too. I think I need to move my injection site, again. It was taking 15 mins when shooting in the leg, so I moved to my abdomen. When I moved it, we were back to 5 mins. Now, 2 weeks later, I'm back to 15 mins. Don't know why but maybe the site is "packed" with Trex? I'm not a doc so I have no clue, but I'm moving my site with the next injection. Hope that helps.

Aww Nancy, I'm sorry. Well you know about changing the site. Maybe the scar tissue has built up and the medicine isn't getting absorbed as quickly. When I used the trex injections, I used to get that feeling in my head like you are describing. I used to tell my doc that my headache got much more worse after I did the injection and then within a half hour that very intense pain would go away. I would still call your doctor and let him/her know and see what they say about it! Best of luck, Lizzie

Nancy - please see your dr asap, just to rule out anything serious. I had a burst brain aneurysm in 1999. I am one of 10% who get out of that alive and relatively undamaged. I sometimes used to get bad headaches now and then and had I not passed out would have assumed it was one of those (CH didn't start till 6 mos after the anuerysm - dr says they're not related). Sending good energy and light...feel better...

I've had this happed before as well. I think that after you have so many headaches and taking a certain med for it everytime, your body gets used to it. As I know longer have insurance (can't afford it, no benifits) I haven't used imitrex in a few years. My other treatment, verapamil, will work for a while, then the h/a's return. Then I get myself on a prednisone taper for no less than three weeks. The breakthroughs I can usually abort with O2. Hopefully by the time I finish the taper, my cycle will have ended. Doesn't always but the prednisone will always give me a break for a while.
