(Another) Imitrex Question...

Ok, I went back to look at the side effects and contraindications with my Imitrex, wanted to be informed. From the GlaxoSmithKline website: Quote:IMITREX Injection and any ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medication (like dihydroergotamine or methysergide) should not be used within 24 hours of each other, nor should IMITREX Injection and another 5-HT1 agonist. |
| What has me confused is that my Neuro has me on 6mg of the methysergide a day. But this says you can't take the Imitrex and meth within 24 hours of each other. Do they just say this to cover themselves? Or is there a danger? I don't really like the methysergide anyway, my eyes constantly hurt and I feel like I'm gaining a bit of weight (don't have a scale...). Hasn't helped with the ha's anyway. Maybe I will talk to my doctor about something else. Any suggestions? Casey

DEFINITELY do not take them together until you clear this conflict up. My doc made me sign a statement several years ago that I was told about waiting 24 hours before starting imitrex. If nothing else, call the pharm. and inquire. You should also call the doc's office. This is my opinion. John

Went to the Pharmacy to pick up my Imitrex and Methysergide...together...asked the pharmacist about the interaction. Said she didn't know, but to go upstairs to the doc's office and ask the duty doctor for info. Went upstairs, they wanted me to come back like next week...I said I needed some info before I could continue taking my meds. duty doc saw me, told me he had no idea, to come back next week and see my GP. Anyway, in the meantime, I don't know what to do...Duty doc told me there is an interaction, both raise the risk of, I think he said vaso-spasm, and he can see why they shouldn't be taken together. Confused, Casey
