Finally got 8 hours.  Yes!  Gotten woken up with a K4 or maybe it was a K6, I don't really know because I was pretty brain dead after 8 hours of sleep but I slept all the way until it came.  Thanks for the advice, everyone.  Taking my BComplex and going to see the new neuro today.  I have never been so excited to see a doc in my life!   Grin

Hey Tom I just had the same results.  Took 9mgs of Melentonin last night, slept all through the night.  Woke up with a Kip 3-4. Not bad at all ... But like you said What a night of sleep!

Did you guys just start taking it??

Stick with it.
I personally would get hit after about 1/2 hour awake. It was almost as if the beast was just pushed back during the night and woke when I woke.  Those subsided as well. The rest certainly  appears to have helped me battle during the day.

SLEEP IS GOOD

Good luck and enjoy Smiley

I did a little "cocktail" of 100 BComplex and 3mg of Melatonin last night, then 100 BComplex and a Multi Vitamin this morning.  Got hit at 4:15 and just now at 9:15.  The 9:15 wasn't as bad as they have been in the past few days.  WooHoo!  Mel-a-tonin!

Sounds good to me. Try tossing some Magnesium into your kokkktail......just avoid the kind that has "Milk" in it. There's nothing like a controlled, non-toxic experiment.

It sounds to me as if melatonin has the highest efficacy of any of the things we use for relief.
That shit's great. Wink

I used melatonin for a year...I did not even think about it helping w/ the clusters, but it did when I had a cycle, but after a year, my sleep became, I don't know how to describe it, but dirty.  I woke up in the morning feeling though I had slept at all.  This continued for several weeks until I stopped using it.  I haven't used it again in a cycle.  Thanks for posting this, I'll probably try it.

AWESOME IF IT WORKS FOR YOU.

Well, it's been 3 weeks, roughly on the tonin.  Still getting a good nights sleep, no hits.  Weird thing, dreaming my ass off around the time I get up.  Not getting hit, been PF for about 7 days, now.  Took a nap last Sunday, Bears were losing big time, didn't take the tonin and woke up with a small shadow.  Nothing major and didn't need Trex for it.  Went away in about 30 mins.  Don't know and not going to change anything for fear of jinxing my luck!

I AM NOT A DOCTOR but my doctor suggested 9-12mgs to start with. I started @ 6 and it has done the trick. Once in a while if I feel like a rough night may be on its way I will take 9mg. That is just what I do not medical advice. Wink

Always heard of melatonin but never pursued.  After ready these posts I did some research.  Seems like it can't hurt.  Won't be able to talk to neuro until Monday but I feel like running out and buying it tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

PS - I know you guys/gals are not doctors, just looking for what has worked for you and then I will do my own reserach.

Thanks

So glad it worked for you!  (Gator, are you reading this?)

I'm still a convert, even though my cycle is winding down.  I was taking 9mg, now down to 6.

The vivid dreams caused by Melatonin are documented on several sites.  I find it kind of curious though, since Melatonin is supposed to suppress REM patterns during sleep.  All I know is it sure helps me - glad to know it's helping you too!

Hugs,

Just took 9mg myself - I read about it last night and ran to Wal-Mart tonight and bought some.  I will try anything to keep from getting woke up with a k8-k10, which is what I get in the middle of the night.  I don't have my appt with my doc until next Friday.  hope I can make it another whole week without Hubby having to hide the gun from me.  When I had my cycle last year he hid the handgun from me because I was going to shoot myself.  I even begged him to do it for me.  I will do whatever I can to try to prevent the beast from sneaking in.

I think melatonin helps me.  My summer cycles start with a distinctive pattern of insomnia/disturbed sleep.  I start taking melatonin as soon as I notice those changes, and it seems to get me back to normal.   Melatonin doesn't help everyone, but if it does help you, it is a good thing.

My pharmacy recomended that I talk to my doctor before trying melatonin, he said that the meds i'm on could have some reaction to it.

I'm taking Varapamil 240mg, Divalproex ER 500mg and just finished a prednisone taper but my doctor put me back on a 5 day constent prednisone dose of 20mg 3 times daily, and Zomig nasal spray after trex pill didn't work.

Have any of you had any reactions?

I just bought it Vitamin Shopp Brand 3mgs.  Want him to try it tonight but not sure if I should start with 3, 6 or 9 mgs.  He is only on Verapamil & Topamax.

Guess I will research alittle more to make sure there are not interactions.

Has anyone had the melatonin make for more frequent clusters?  He only gets up about 2x and the O2 has been working, kinda apprehensive to put anything new into the mix right now but also thinking maybe he won't get up at all.

And the saga continues....

And the saga continues....

Here's what happened with me....
I started with 3mg which is what the bottle suggests despite my doctor telling me to take 9-12.

It did nothing for the CH. I woke up in the middle of the night and got slammed only I was too groggy to  find any of my meds.

The next night I went up to 6mg. I slept for the entire night for the first time in cycle. Big smiles... I wound up getting slammed about 1/2 hour after being awake. This happened for the first couple of days.

I stayed with 6mg. and have managed to sleep through the night since July with the exception of 4 or 5 times.

Once in a while I will take 9mg if I feel like it's going to be a rough night (heavy shadows) or have had a really rough day and need a real break.

This is just what I do. For me it has been a godsend!! If I were only getting hit during the night again I would still take it then I would be completely PF. Mine just happen to come during the day as well. At least I'm rested Smiley
It is not necessarily what will work for you. I can only hope for ya Smiley Do your research and talk to doctor like with any med.

Good luck,
Eric

Let me add something.  I started off the same way as E.  I mixed mine up though.  I take 6mg of regular and 3mg of extended or time released.   Don't know if it matters but seems to be working.  Going to the doc tomorrow so hopefully I can start working my way off this stuff, soon.

Ditto to the above - I started with 6mg, but after 2 nights, went up to 9mg.  That was my magic number.

I don't know of any cases where Melatonin interacted badly with the meds you mentioned your hubby was on.  Worst case scenario is he might be groggy in the morning, though I've never experienced that.

I've taken Melatonin off and on for several years in lower doses for menopausal sleeplessness so increasing the dosage wasn't a big jump for me.  Just know I'm grateful it exists at all - and without a prescription!

Good luck,
