Tabasco sauce

Hi! Just wanted to let all know that I read on this site someone tried tabasco sauce on their tounge and also tried red bull. The only thing that usually works is Imitrex Nasal 20mg and will usually stop in 10-15 minutes. I only get 6 a month like that's enough though and so was on here yesterday looking at any home tricks. I saw those 2 ideas so went and got the red bull. Devil came at 830pm and i went to grab the red bull since I was out of imitrex and thought I would try the tabasco sauce instead. I started smelling it and then I put 2 drops on my tongue (ouch ) and within 5 minutes it was gone. I was in SHOCK. I read someone else's post that said didn't work for them but they live in Lousiana and always eat it. Maybe they are like immune. I don't know but I was so happy. I got another one at 11:30 after went to sleep. Did it again (2 drops) and 5 minutes later poof gone. I can't believe it. It is the best thing ever. I don't EVER eat anything hot though (i hate hot food-i know i'm lame) so maybe I am super sensitive. It's worth a try though for anyone else looking for help. Just wanted to share. I still can't believe it.

Hey Trisha, Glad you found something that worked. Cheaper and much safer than imitrex. From what I understand, peppers diminishes substance P necessary for pain transmittal. I wouldn't know if it would work on me because I love anything hot. Anyway, glad you found something that works for you. Also give melatonin 9mg one hour before bedtime a try--50-50 that it will work for you. Regards. John

Thanks john. I have never posted always reading. I have had these about 3 years now. I am in a bad cycle this time. Every night. I have ordered this stuff from sinusbuster.com which apparantly has Capsaicin in it which the site says 100% effective on clusters. It is only 9.99 so i figured what the hell! Have you heard of it? I hope you too find relieve in something. Aloha from Maui

Hey Trisha, Nothing is 99% effective against CH including mushrooms. Some people have claimed that cayenne peppers have helped others not. Kinda like all the other medications we take---some works some don't. There are many old threads about peppers--do some search on CH and see if you can pull them up. Here's a site that has helped me and many others: www.clusterbusters.com Hope you have relief soon. John

Aloha! At the moment I wish I only got 6 a month. I am getting one a night for the last 2 weeks. I usually get them 4x a week for a month and then I get a break for a month or so. Then like mad they are back. This cycle seems to suck even worse (if that's possible) as I am just so tired. Who knows if the tabasco, red bull, water, no water (did you read that one about saliva glands?) if I washed my hands b4 bed, whatever. I have tried everything. I have made a list of absolutley everything I have done, said, smoked, eaten etc and nothing stands out as a trigger. I quit eating anything w/nitrates in it 2 years ago. I miss hotdogs the most. I have lost 20lbs though!!!! Funny thing too I never got 1 when I was pregos! Strange. Being pregnant for the rest of my life isn't probably the best option. Anyone have any other home remedies they'd like to share? Until the hot sauce trick which I will try again tonight I used to stand in front of the freezer, rub my feet (distractions only I know), ice packs pressing into my eye and crying. Crying somehow seemed to release the sh** that was up my nose and I would blow and blow and blow until the congestion was gone.

Trisha, you seem desperate for something that works... If the tabasco works for you, that's cool... But the sinus buster has been a long running joke around here... Don't get caught up with all the snake oil salesmen! Ignore the saliva BS! Have you tried O2? melatonin is great too!

Trisha, Do try some melatonin, add in some vitamin B complex vitamins, multi vitamin. Experiment with the dosage on melatonin. Most people, I believe, use approximately 9mg per night one hour before bedtime. Buy the ones that come in 3mg tablets. Some people combine time released along with the non-time released. This would be available at GNC or other vitamin stores. Also, are you taking anything like verapamil? Verapamil is commonly used by many of use with benefit. pf, John

um... I've done this a few times. long story short... I cooked a VERY spicy dinner with hot peppers and forgot to wash my hands... hours later when the attack came and my eye was teary with pain, I was rubbing my eye. Oh the HORROR! or so I thought. Immediately instead of burning, I felt a warm, soothing, tingly sensation. The attack was gone within a few minutes. Apparently, the Capsaicin in the pepper oil had gone directly to the nerves in my eye and muted the attack. I've done this again several times and it works. It doesn't stop attacks. It doesn't work as a preventative and it only will work in a WET, teary eye. (probably dilutes it correctly.) So now when people ask me if that's a jalapeno in my pocket or am I just glad to see them, I tell them it's a jalapeno. There was a study done recently with a synthetic version of Capsaicin called civamide and it was put in a creme which is put in the nose. It didn't go over very well. I still think the delivery must be to the eye, and in very SMALL amounts. Just break open the pepper and smear a LITTLE bit onto my palm, near the base of the thumb. and touch the wet, painful eye. AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I haven't tried tabasco sauce, per se, because I don't have any, but I have a huge amount of ground red pepper. When the Red Bull treatment worked for only a day-and-a-half, last night desperation drove me to try some plain red pepper. The capsaicin did make my nose run, and cleared some of the sinus tightness on my headache side, and allowed me to sleep last night. I've been taking 9 mg of melatonin at about 10:00 p.m. every night for over a week. Like everything else, it worked great for a day or two, and seems to be having less and less effect as time passes. Tonight I got woken at 2:00 a.m. with a Kip 6. Tried to ignore it. At 2:05 slammed a Red Bull. Fell asleep at 2:10. Slept for what felt like a long time, only to waken to a Kip 8 and find out that it was 2:30 a.m. Tried the red pepper again. Different kind of ouch dance, but still ouch. Headache has faded to a Kip 5. Whoopee. Not.

In reading this thread I remembered an appt I had about 6 months ago to have my eyes checked. The doc dilated my eyes, I was at a kip 4 at the time and knew it would be going higher, and about 15 min. after he dilated my eyes the ch went away, totally. I told him what had happened and he gave me the name of the med he used to dilate my eye, which I don't remember now, but thought i'd mention this and see if anyone else had had the same experience. My neuro said the drops most likely relaxed my optic nerve and thus the cluster went away. I wish I had some of those drops for home use. I'd be a blurry visioned pf person. Renee

Hot peppers and other spicey stuff have never done anything for me except make my food taste better. I eat very spicey food (Jalepenos are lame) almost every day so it may not have the same effect. I have also never tried rubbing the stuff directly in my eye. When I go back into cycle again I'll try it. I've got these awesome Thai chile peppers that I'll try. Pat

| Interesting! Sounds like a type of a nerve block. Atropine was the traditional dilating agent, although it has mostly been replaced by other drugs like homatropine and tropamide - all are anti-muscarinic ... they block a particular type of acetylcholine receptor. The effect is pretty temporary compared to a traditional nerve block (obviously). Anti-muscarinics can cause damage if someone has glaucoma. Not sure what the consequences would be of frequent dilation. Quote:How does it work? Tropicamide belongs to the group of medicines called anti-muscarinics. Tropicamide blocks the receptors in the muscles of the eye (muscarinic receptors). These receptors are involved controlling the pupil size and the shape of the lens. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001695.html |

| Henko... It's really better if you introduce yourself on your first post, not endorse a product that has been debunked a million times over. It just gives the wrong impression and will lead people to believe you are a "snake oil salesman". And they don't get a very warm welcome here.

I am from Holland and Sinus Buster is for sale here since a few months. I am not trying to sell the product. I am trying to get some information about it from people that have used it longer. What do you mean by debunked?

Debunked means at least in this case proven innefective, it does not live up to it's claims, it's "snake oil"... There are tons of past conversations here about sinus buster, and NO ONE has had any luck with it. You would be the first. Someone as recently as a few weeks ago tried it and it once again did not work.
