Verapamil + Erythromycin = Heart Attack ??

Just read about this - the antibiotic Erythromycin increases the risk of a heart attack, and it is especially a problem when it is taken by people on Verapamil. The risk is not huge (around 1 in 1000 for people taking both drugs) but it showed up as statistically signficant, and is something to consider. In particular, Erythromycin increases the level of Verap in the blood - which can slow the heart too much or cause arrythmias. http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/09/09/antibiotic.deaths.ap/index.html

The only thing I would add is that I wouldn't take erythromycin anyways!! Such bad GI side effects from that med. I took it once...and lost a lot of weight from all the vomiting! That was from a triple infection (respiratory) that I had right before getting my New Daily Persistent headache. I still remember my mom being put on erythro when I was a kid, and I seriously thought she was going to die because for several days she didn't move from laying on the bathroom floor from how sick it made her!! I don't like that drug at all!!!
