2 Weeks into Verapamil &

Hey Guys, I started another go around with Verapamil and after a couple weeks I have noticed that there has been a decrease in the amount of my clusters. I still get them couple days a week but maybe a total of four a week now, which is a far cry from the 3-4 days a week 3-5 a day that it was. HOWEVER, I have noticed that the ones I get are OFF my previously known KIP scale. These Beasts are beyond painful!!!! They hit at night and take a good 20 mins or so after 2 doses of Zomig. STADOL was a wast of time helped me sleep afterwards I suppose but WOW!!! I was just wondering if anyone else has had this type of thing happen with they used Verapamil. Good Vibes and stay PF

Hi, Glad you're getting some relief. Actually, it sounds like the Verapamil is working. Don't know what your dose is (480mg/day is my magic #), but maybe your cycle is peaking. The Verap is knocking back the number of HA's, but maybe hasn't yet reached the effectivenes where it can knock out those 9-10's that hit you at your peak. Thanks to Imitrex injects, I never have to go there - 4-5 minutes and I'm good. Maybe you need a different abortive? Just a thought ... don't give up on the Verap! Kris

Gotta agree with Kris, the verap does sound like it's working. You may be peaking in you cycle, like I did two weeks ago. I ended up getting some prednisone which helped alot. Maybe losing the stadol and going with the prednisone my help. I use the Imitrex nasal spray. I get some relief in about three minutes and get PF in 5 or 10. I just hate needles! Best Wishes! John

Verapamil slows mine down alot, but I dont think they ever stay completely away. I had been prevenative free for quite a long while, and the CH returned early this past summer. Finially broke down and got on a predisone taper, and was taking 220mg verap a day. Ch was gone for nearly 2 weeks, then one night WOW!!!!!!!! Completely different feeling in the same spot. Kind of like a burning pressure. I did not actually recognize it at first. I ran for the oxygen when I finally came full awake, then the imitrex tab. I ran my verap up to 330mg per day, for about a week. Now, Im reducing the Verap. Have to find my happy medium for this particular cycle. Hang in there, and keep trying.

Verap did the same for me (in combination with indomethicin). I used to get them every day and with these two meds, I can be lucky and only get 2-3 per week. I wish you endless pfdan!!!

| Mynm, I can almost say ditto to your post but I started a betamethason taper at the same time as the Verapimil so it has been difficult to figure what is doing what to what. The relief was nearly immediate, starting in the 24 hour period of the second day of the drugs, a noticeable diminishment in symptoms. I guess we should "hi 5" now eh? However, I am nearing the end of the taper and will soon find out if the verapimil is doing the work. I am having a couple of attacks a day still but they have been more manageable for the most part. Actually I shouldn't have said verapimil alone. I also started Cafergot at noon and again at bedtime (my "prime" times.) I will be starting verapamil at 480 per day in two days. Presently at 240. Also using melatonin and I use Oxygen to abort when needed. Delighted to hear that you got some relief and hope it continues. PFDAN to all.
