Quote:ALTACE is an "ACE inhibitor." ACE inhibitors help to reduce blood pressure by decreasing production of a protein — produced in the human body — that can cause the blood vessels to constrict. |
| Sounds similar to verapamil... But I'd never heard of it...

Eddie, Did you try verapamil yet? Generally verapamil works best for the CH (as far as BP meds go). I wouldn't write the ACE inhibitors off altogether like Altace, but the Calcium Channel blockers usually take the cake in beating CH (like verapamil). But maybe it'll work well for you! Worth giving it a shot if the doc thinks it is the right thing to try! Hang in there Eddie! Lizzie

Eddie, I'm trying to remember, have you ever tried imitrex stat dose injections to abort headaches? I haven't used it in a long time because of success with the alternative treatment, but when I did it would abort a headache within 5 minutes (with me). Insurance is a must with this one because of the cost. Surely hope you have relief soon. John

I worry sometimes that docs get confused about which B/P drugs work for what. I've never heard of ACE inhibitors working for CH or being recommended for them. Calcium Channel Blockers, however, work for many people. Can''t hurt to try, but don't let yourself suffer for too long. Hugs, Kris

My husband takes Altace following a heart attack 3 years ago. It's also called Ramipril and I'm told it's taken by many pro golfers to keep their BP low when they're in tournaments and keeps them from getting the yips when putting! No idea what it might do for CH. Interesting to see the cross between drugs for different conditions though. Carol

| Eddie, I take tenormin year round for hypertension. When I began a Verapamil regimen I stopped the Tenormin on Dr's advice for now. I have not heard of using Tenormin as part of a cluster strategy but would be eager to learn more if there is some reference for it. I will do some searching as well. Tenormin is a very easy drug to take for Hypertension and, in my case, there were no side effects. That is, of course, not true with Verapamil which has been stubborningly constipating and renders a light headedness that is distinctly unpleasant. I am still taking it, however, because of the overwhelming testimony that it works among clusterheads. I am only on my 2nd week of it and can't honestly say that I notice a difference yet except for the mentioned side affects).
