Can someone explain to me just what Imitrex does to the system??? I use the pills to help abort, then I tend to sleep for hours. If I abort during the night, I usually sleep through the alarm. If I abort during work, I can function, but I feel like Im dragging.

It is almost like giving yourself serotonin. I believe that the sleepiness comes from the massive relief of aborting the ch, myself.

I beleive that Thomas is correct. I too get "dopey" after taking my Trex. However I use the nasal spray form which I think is a lower dosage, 20mg vs. 50 or 100.

I always feel exausted after an attack that I used Imitrex (injection) for. I always thought it was just from the severe pain I had just went through. I feel exausted after attacks for which I didn't use Imitrex either. THE PAIN JUST WEARS ME DOWN ! Unsolved

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Imitrex is a vaso-constrictor. I remember someone who took too much in one day and ended up shutting down the blood flow to his stomach! My husband used to feel sleepy after the pills, too, but not so much with the nasal spray. That makes sense though - if it's slowing down blood flow, your body would go into a slower/sleep mode.

I guess it could be exhaustion from the pain. It is pretty relaxing when the head stops hurting. Constricts the blood vessels? This medicine stuff is pretty confusing to me. WTF----everything is confusing to me right now. CH=painfull confusion.

Imitrex is indeed a vaso constrictor. It makes that snake size vein on your temple chill the fuck out. O2 has the same effect in a different way. It floods your blood with O2 making the veins relax, because the brain tells them there is plenty of O2, so chill the fuck out! Basically anything that makes your veins chill the fuck out is gonna help.... I'm thinking of having mine wrapped in kevlar so they can only get so big.
