I think my meds are working???

Just wanted to share in case it could help anyone. I wasn't due to start my cycle until the end of July or Aug. But in early June, things started to be weird. Alcohol just wasn't settling well. Smells started to bother me. I seemed to lose my appetite, and foods didn't taste right. Then I started having shadows, for a good couple weeks. Then, it happened. I got a shadow that got bad enough, I decided it was the real thing. After about 20 min. of agony, I was sure and ran for the O2 and the Zomig ZMT 5 mg. Took about another 20 min., but it was gone. Then nothing but shadows for another week. Then another hit, O2 and Zomig again. During that week I got hit 3 more times and used O2 and Zomig again. None of the hits were more than a 7. But I decided I was scared enough that I was really starting my cycle, I started my preventative. I was stocked on meds from my neuro visit last Dec. I am episodic, every 2 years. So I started Procardia XL, 60 mg. daily. Only got hit 2 more times after starting it. And they were not more than a 7 either. I have had several shadows though. I have been on the Procardia for almost 3 weeks I guess. And am happy as can be. I am still guessing that I am actually in my cycle, and being optomistic that the Procardia is working. Procardia has worked for me my last oh, 4? cycles. But in the past, I have suffered miserably until I figured out it wasn't going to stop, went to the doctor, got the meds and took it for a week before I got any relief. This time, I just jumped on it and started. I am either having a very light cycle, not really in cycle, or the Procardia is really kicking the Beasts ass this time. I am being very optimistic and believing the meds are working. For those who are not familiar with Procardia, it is also called Nifedipine and is a Calcium Channel Blocker like Verapamil. It was the first med I ever got that worked and a PA gave it to me one year. I was amazed. I have had this shit 26 years and never had a med that worked until the Procadia. I am of course, avoiding alcohol, and heat, and cigs, and certain foods, just in case. Anyway. Just wanted to share in case someone comes on the board and maybe it will work for them too. PFDAN to all........................Little Deb PS. I also have to thank DJ and CH.com for being here. I found it 2 years ago when in cycle. And it was because of all that I have learned from CH.com that I am more knowledgeable about CH and now know about cycles and meds and abortives and O2. I was in the dark and alone before CH.com. Thanks DJ!!!

Sweet news, LD. Glad you are finding some relief! Any side effects with Procardia? RL

Hi Deb, I know what you mean when it comes to this board. For years I just accepted what the docs had given me and practically nothing worked. I had the O2 and had given up because I was doing it wrong. I used the imitrex spray and it didn't work. I discovered the proper way for O2 to be administered and gave the stat dose a try and it worked. My verapamil was increased and it worked. I found mushrooms and they worked. Gee, where would I be now without this board? In pain! BTW, really nice to see you and Dale in Nashville. John
