Glad to have found you and ? about shrooms

Oh thank Heaven I found you guys!!!! I have had these headaches since I was 4 years old (or maybe earlier, I just remember that particulare day bec. we couldn't go to the amusement park!). I'm almost 38 now. I also have some peripheral nerve root compression in my neck, so for several years I thought thats what it was. So, I"ve been down the road of physical therapy, deep ultrasound, cervical traction, and the rest. These days I think its just a package deal: get a headache, get the neck and arm pain to go with it. They all work in concert, and always on the left side. Now to the shrooms. I'm not sure how to "order" the spores, and then how to grow things. I read the clusterbuster thing but I'm not very good at "reading" things and then "doing" them. Its much easier for me to see someone do it. Do I just order spores, or should I order a growing box with it? I only recently went for treatment, because I was so afraid to have this stuff in my chart. I've been on the other side, in the ER, in the ICU. I know what it looks like when people ask for real pain medication...and then ask for more, and then ask for more again. But I don't care anymore. I'm not living like this anymore. I"ll do ANYTHING. Does anyone know when the study posted will use human trials? So far my family doc has been wonderful about real pain relief. But he doesn't seem to get it that migraines and clusters are two different things. He puts clusters in the same category as migraines, just different manifestation. He keeps giving me triptans and none of them work consistantly enough to spend the money on them. I don't get the intensity of headaches that you often see described as clusters, only once in a while. Instead I have a continuous nagging Kip scale 3-7 headache that lasts forever. When the doc asked me if the headache comes and goes, I said "no it gets better and worse but its ALWAYS there." When I started keeping track though, I realized I actually am having several headaches a day. It just *seemed* like one long headache that lasted for weeks or months. Doc put me on LA Indural, and I had a 2 week break...then was a camp nurse and it all went to hell. So, I think the Inderal will probably help, but I definitely need something to abort these things successfully. Once the monster comes to visit, Inderal is useless. I have to go back to camp in 3 weeks....but they do sell Red Bull there. Hmmmmmmm. Sleep deprivation is definitely the biggest trigger. and since I get stuffy toward morning, and then snore, I think it triggers my morning headaches. Antihistamines/decongestants will help that for awhile, but then I get tolerant to them. Even if I solve the morning headaches, I still get an afternoon headache every day starting at 2pm. When I first started reading about clusters, I was shocked to discover that that is a prime time for ch. The best meds for me are fioricet, and round the clock motrin 800's. Excedrin works sometimes, but mostly upsets my stomach anymore. And it helps to take a narcotic at night, but doesn't necessarily "cure" the h/a...just masks the symptoms and helps me sleep. I'm going to try melatonin instead. I've tried exercise to strengthen my neck/back, but that seems to trigger things too. I'm up late tonight bec. I had a killer ch earlier, prob a 8 or 9. Took 2 excedrin, motrin 800, 1/2 vicodin, 1 fioricet, and laid on a heating pad, and STILL couldn't get rid of it! Finally got up to move around and now its a little better. But the caffeine from the excedrin is keeping me awake now. Well, I guess I should try to get some sleep. Rx

Well, another thing you could ask your doc about is Oxygen. Read the buttonon the left. I say this because O2 has been proved to work in other headache cases as well. You see, I wonder about the constant headache. Might be something else. Might also be headache through too much headache medication! Or tension headache combined with something else. Have you seen a neuro? That might ne worth your while more than downing fioricet and percocet and what have you...

I'm going to see the family doc next week. I will probably suggest a neuro at that time (need a referral). I saw a neurosurgeon the last time bec. we thought it was my neck. No luck there either. Lots of muscle relaxants but no real relief. By the way, I don't normally take as much meds as I took last night. That was extreme bec. I was desperate. Prior to seeing the doc, it was usually one kind. Either Motrin OR antihistamines/decongestant combo, usually at night. When I went to see the doc, I went off of everything and only took what he recommended which usually ended up being Fioricet with a few trials of the other stuf in between. By far, the only thing that worked well was the Fioricet. the same was true when I was a teen. Hope that clarifies things a bit.

| If you decide to try shrooms, I'd suggest you read this page of clusterbusters FAQ and follow this route. http://www.clusterbusters.com/mycobag.htm It has all the links needed. I would also suggest some of the things mentioned in section 4.1 (and subsections) and 4.4 (and subsections) as some of these things might also be helpful. Sounds like you have a very complicated headache etiology. Symptoms mixed from several headadache classifications. Clusters, tension, transformed migraine and possibly some rebounds thrown in for good measure. Shrooms may not help all of these symptoms even if they do help others. You most likely aren't going to find "one thing" that takes care of everything. I'd begin a headache diary including times, symptoms, medications used and resullts of treatments. Be prepared and ready to take a holistic approach if you want to beat these things. If headaches are adversely affecting your life, it's better to have them on your chart than let them have you. PF
