Imitrex Nasal Spray

Just got my first Perscription of Imitrex Nasal Spray. Usually I just fight through my clusters. The best pain kill I've ever had was my Girlfriends presence. However! I'm travelling soon. I figured if I get a cluster on the plane they'll land and kick me off for Freaking everyone out. Soooo I called the doc and asked for the spray. Anyone out there use this? I have a concern about some of the effects. Like the Tightness in the chest, and throat, and the heart palpitations. Anyone experience this stuff, and how profound is it. Are the effects intense enough to frighten? Yourself and anyone around.

Hello LoopyGirdlesniffer (can't believe I'm even responding to someone with a name like that!) I use the nasals quite regularly and the only effects I get are a nasty bitter taste in the back of the throat, and a slightly 'jumpy/jittery' feeling for a short while afterwards, nothing worse than that. They usually abort the pain in about 10 minutes for me. Wendy

PubGurl, With a name like that it seems to me we belong together. If it makes you feel better I got the name cause I'm the only male member of an otherwise all girls crew. We race sailboats. Anyway Thanx. Appreciate the reply. Marc

Marc That's a much better name! I'm pubgirl because I live in a pub! Don't worry too much about the Imigran nasals, the slightly odd effects (if you get them at all, many don't) wear off quite quickly. Don't forget you can only use 2 in 24 hours though. Wendy

Hey I like being Loopy! It's almost like being crazy, but better. Seriously though - Thanx. They've been sitting on my table at home. Almost as if I've been afraid to move them since reading the effects. So you live in a pub huh? Sounds like it could be kind of noisy. what do you do for peace and quiet?

[first time post] The Imitrex nasal spray wasn't *quite* effective enough for me (I use the injections,) but the side effects aren't as strong either. Aside from an unpleasant taste from the drip, you should be fine. - Ted

Thanx Ted, After 6 years of them getting progressively worse, my clusters have actually gotten less severe in the last two years. Soooooo I'm hoping this is enough. Wendy, You live in a pub. Ha! That's pretty cool! How did you come by that? Family owned thing?

The nasal seems to work well ,and for me had no side effect exept for the bad aftertaste... It's a lot less scary to others than the imiject ! works in about 10min . I use either depending on the intensity and speed of the hit. The imiject is faster but tends to give me a stiff neck... Good luck during you're trip ,been hit many times in airplanes without meds and it really not a good place for that! ...wish you PFDs.......................Axel.

Well thanx I feel a lot better about this stuff now. I was seriously considering just suffering. I'll get my first trial run on Thursday. My travel has just been moved up by a week. On a side note to that trip. Anyone ever had to deal with a father that just had a stroke? I got that wonderful news Yesterday afternoon. So Pub girl. Now that you brought it up what'll it be? Swallow or........... I bet either way you can't escape the taste!

I don't get any side effects from any of the Imitrex, shots, nasal or tablet. With the shots I can feel the stuff going up the back of my neck. Kind of creepy but it means painfree in another minute.

The nasal sprays are my prefered method for Imitrex (I hate needles), Works in about 5-10 minutes. It does have a nasty after taste and sometimes I get some nausea.
