Hi, Brian here...new to the Board. I was just given Relpax to get through the overnight attacks...and IT WORKED.  I slept like a baby in a coma. (what?)
Daytimes, I take lithium (900mg) and Verapimil (480mg).
They work well, though I do still feel slight pangs pain...but highly muffled pain. Not sharp at all.
After 20 years of hell...I finally found something to kill the overnight attacks. I pray it continues to work.

Relpax probably shouldn't be used in a "preventative" manner. It's an abortive triptan, not a preventative. But I'm no doc, so... I dunno, maybe it's OK?

According to the manufacturers info, it shouldn't be taken unless you know your about to get a "migraine"...
But since it's a cluster and you KNOW it's gonna come regardless, maybe that point is moot. Huh

*edit* Congrats on the relief... Grin

Hi Brian, welcome to the board.

My neuro has me on Relpax as a preventative.  I take 10 mg every night, and only have breakthroughs about every 2nd night.  He just told me that if it works, keep taking it.

Ueli was the one who told me that the price of Relpax is per pill.....not the mg of the pill.  So I buy 40 mg, and quarter them.  My prescription is for 30 tablets, and I get 120 doses out of the script.  Can't beat that.

I know if I upped the dosage, I wouldn't get breakthroughs, but I'd rather have a few hits and have enough meds to last.

I won't be the floor show at the convention this years.....LOL..... Cheesy

I too take Relpax (20mg) before bed time, and it usually keeps away the night time hits.

Likewise, I've used it as a preventative on special occasions. With the help of Relpax I've survived Chinese dinner, despite I'm very sensitive to MSG.

Superpain, the main reason why triptans should not be used as preventative by migrainers is that during the aura phase (some sort of neurological black-out) the triptans can have some nasty effects. As we have no aura this reason is void for us.
