hot sauce / are they back or did they ever leave?

I've been having distinct CH's again...I think...been some occasional shadows, and a few episodes where I'd say that definitely I was having a CH... The good news is they have not been particularly hard events to get over, and I seem to have stumbled on a cheap, natural help for me...more on that later. As I was treating my headaches with Topamax for about three months (Jan-end of March) after a few months of a cycle (started October 2003)...stopped the Topa at the beginning of April, and now in late May I'm getting a few, not so bad CH's, and they are on the "wrong" side (left) more often than my "normal side"... A couple of the shadows have "switched" sides... Could it be the old cycle just lingering, a new weak cycle? WTF? Anyway, I've been real successfull using tobasco sauce to abort. I take a few drops on a spoon, and generall in about 10 minutes the HA is going away! Happened on it accidentally when I was having a persistent shadow, and ate a hot wing. Took a couple ibuprofen at the same time, and in a few minutes noticed the HA going away. I ate another wing, and the HA was done. I've since repeated it 3 or 4 times with the tabasco...with solid results! I know some folks have had some success with chili peppers and the like. I'm going to keep my eyes open, and consider the "alternative" if they get worse, but for now it seems I just have to endure a little SW heat on my tongue!

| Man... that makes my eyes water just thinking about it. I bet a picture of someone doing that would make a CH go away. Rock

Floridian had told me about cayenne pepper pills available at most vitamin stores some time ago (450 mg). They appear to work by depleting "p" substance needed for pain transmittal. Anyway, I had taken some for my chronic back pain and was amazed at the results. I have not had a cycle since obtaining these pills so I do not know how effective they would be with CH, but do think they might be worth a try. John

Any side effects of the pepper pills? Make your BO weird or give hallitosis? Today I got a sudden twinge at about noon (seems to be the preferred time now) and qickly went to take a few ibuprofens and 10 drops of tabasco... 5 minutes later I was pain free...relatively. I guess I still feel the beast lurking, but he's not playing his favorite song.

Personally I did not have any negative reaction to the pills. I take them with water and have no burning sensation in my mouth area. Sometimes the top of my head will tingle and I'll feel flush. Periodically, a slight burn or acid feeling in my stomach for a few minutes. Do a search on the internet and you'll find numerous articles. The pepper pills appear to have many benefits beside pain relief. They're also as cheap as dirt. Good luck, John

| "p" substance? Well, I guess if pain somewhere else distracts attention from the ch, it might help. But how would that differ from just jabbing a pin into your hand?

I'm thinking if cayenne pepper or tobasco worked that well, I'd never have a headache again in life. I was raised in South Louisiana. I put cayenne pepper and/or tobasco in almost everything I eat. I eat jalapenos with most dinners. I still get killer HA's. Cool advertisement for the hot wings, though. "Come and get a bucket o' wings at KFC they're good and good for what ails ya!"" All joking aside, I am glad you found something that works for you. I guess it just goes to prove once more that what works for some does not work for all. Damnit! Gator
