HELP! I feel like crying!!!

I started a prednisone taper nine days ago and the first day I was flying high. No ha, but my eye still drooped. I didn't have pain UNTIL last night. Woke up at 2am with the absolute worst ha ever. My rx is done. I hated the side effect of prednisone (increased hunger, and feeling wired). So is this an indicator that it's not for me? My biggest problem is the ha that strikes in the middle of the night. Is oxygen my next step? Carolann

Nighttime hits? Ch is a terrible condition and they hurt no matter what time of the day you get hit. Personally, the ones that kill me the most, are the ones that come while I am sleeping. Many people have had success avoiding the nighttime hits by using melatonin, which in the U.S. is available over the counter. The dosage varies from person to person, but most usually have success with anywhere from 6-9mg. Some have had luck with much lower doses as well; you may have to experiment with the dosage, in order to find the one that is best for you. As with any medication, check with your doctor before you start using it. PFNAD to all.

O2 should be your first step as it has no bad side effects. Pred side effects suck for sure, but it does help being pf sometimes. Sorry it didn't help you permanently...

An old but often effective treatment for night time attacks is Ergomar. It's an ergotamine tab you dissolve under your tongue; taken at bed time. It will also abort an attack IF you take it at the very earliest sign of an attack starting to develop. Nice thing about it is that you will know within a couple of doses whether it works for you or not. Reasonably priced, too.

Sorry to hear about your HA. I have to say that the night time ones do seem to be the worst. O2 might work for you as an abortive. I have read that many of us have had great results from it. Not ME though anyway good luck and hang tough!!

Welcome and sorry you're getting hit so badly. All of us wonder what we did to deserve getting knocked out of bed every night. Pay attention to these people. They know they're doing. You need to look into other drugs and or treatment as well. You'll find good stuff here. Here is one that I used: http://www.netsync.net/~charlies/ Let us know how you're doing. Charlie
