topomax with other meds?

I am curious if you are taking just topamax, or are you taking something along with the topamax? I have tried just about everything and it seems that topamax is my last chance! I am up to 75 mg a day and still have 3-4, k6-7 every day along with the occasional 8-9. I was wondering if the topamax was not working or if it has not yet been long enough or if I need to be taking something else along with it .

Don't know how long you have been taking it.....but it does have to have some time to build up in your system.
If you've been taking it for a while.....then maybe the dosage isn't right. Either way..you might give your Doc a call.
I know that some folks here that take Topomax, also take Zomig. Again....your Doc can best answer the q's, I would think.
Hope you get some relief....soon. Sorry you're having a tough go of it.

Sorry, been about 2 weeks now. My Nuero has other clusterheads, but has prescribed topamax for for it before, although he has for his Migraine sufferers. I read about all the post here and mentioned it to him and we decided to try it, maybe I am not at the right dose or not long enough. I don't know. I just know that I am tired of this thing, this living creature inside of my head that finds a way around every thing that I find to beat it back.

75mg. is not a very large dosage. If you read the other posts on Topomax.....alot are taking 2 and 3 times that much in a day.
If you're not having any other side effects from the Topomax (other than the fact that you still have the ha's), call your Doc and see if he is willing to up the dosage. Go back and re-read the posts on Topo and see what works for the majority who take it. You may also note what other meds they take in conjunction w/Topo, and ask the Doc about that also. I just seem to recall Zomig taken along w/Topo. There are so many combinations of meds, it's difficult to recall them all.
Feel free to print out any info you think might help and take it with you when you see your doc.
Also, do you have 02?? Ask the doc for that also. It is an absolute life saver for alot of folks here.

I really needed nothing else but Topamax...did take Zomig once, the second day I was on the therapy. But basically topa worked fast for me. I did have a daily HA for about 2 weeks, though...
75 mg is probably a low end dose for CH. I had read that 100 mg was the "optimal" CH dose, but there are plenty of other using quite a bit more. I would suggest upping to 100 mg for a few days to a week, then upping it perhaps to 150 mg if that doesn't provide relief...

I tried to post on the other Topo thread but it wouldn't let me. My doc started me on 50mg of Topomax for three days while decreasing my Neurontin. I stayed at that for one week. The headaches were the same. Actually, I didn't have any real improvement until I hit 150mg at bedtime. Then bam.....nothing...not one headache and it has been 5 weeks to date. ....yeee..haa. He was going to try adding verapamil to the Topomax if that didn't work..but luckily it did. I have now managed to get through the side effects of feeling really spacey and cognitive changes. The only real bothering factor of the Topo at this dosing is the tingling/burning in my feet. Doc says that is normal and to split the dosing throughout the day. I would much rather deal with that then the headaches.
Also, have lost 14 lbs in two months from the Topomax.

Oh, and for the dull- i-think-i may be getting a headache..i take zomig ns. Haven't had a full blown attack yet.
