Just wanting to get an idea of what to expect when I get done with this taper... For now the ha's are gone. My question is for those of you that have taken pred and it was successful in providing relief, did it last after the taper is done, or did the ha's come back. So, Stayed away... or Came back???

Had both happen before....the big question is what preventative are you using while the taper holds off the beast. Stay consistent with the preventative. It's easy to forget to take it when the beast is being stopped by the pred. Good Luck. Sleep well.

Two years ago I took the 18 day taper. Headaches were gone after 1 day and did not come back until Feb of this year. In Feb I stared a 6 day taper. The headaches went away after 1 day but came back the day after my last pill. Then I started the 18 day taper and the headaches went away after day 1 and did not come back. However, because I took so much prednisone, I experienced a severe weakening of the muscles. It is 2 weeks after I stopped taking prednisone and I am just now able to climb stairs. The headaches are gone though. I don't think I will take prednisone again because the side effects are awful. But it does take away CH for me right away with the right dosage.

I went on a Pred taper 205 days ago, while in a horrific CH cycle. My taper was 12 days. From the 1st Prednisone pill........the CH was gone. Last Wed night/early Thurs a.m., I awoke with a CH, about a 7 on the kip scale. Scared the living hell outta me. I thought, for sure, I was going into cycle. However, that was it.....just that 1 CH. That was day 197...... You can bet I keep my fingers crossed.....I know the bastard is still out there. The Pred worked for me.....no shadows, nothing, till last Thurs a.m. So, 1 CH in 205 days. For me, it is definitely a miracle drug. Hope it works the second time, if I go into another cycle. Good luck.... PF vibes, Jean

I have been tapering of Pred. now for 1 week after a 4 week dose. So far the clusters have not returned. What a relief! Although the weight gain from the pred is embarrasing, would rather live with that than with cluster. Hope you do well with your dose. Anita

I just picked up my prednisone from the pharmacy. Is it ok to take all 80mg right now, or should I wait till tomorrow and break up the dose? Thanks Lizzie

Lizzie, you should have a morn, noon, dinner. bedtime schedule to take it at intervals. Start with the whole day. Mine seems to be holding them off pretty well. Hope yours does too...

| For me they come roaring back as soon as I start to taper down off of it. I get a few nights of sleep which is nice but it's right back to hammer time after that. There's some nasty side effects with prednisone and IMO better ways to fight ch's so I won't be going back on it. good luck, Jim

I've used those Medrol dose packs a few times. It's the 6 day taper (6 tabs the first day, 5 the second, etc.) My attacks stop the first day but return about day 4, when I get down to the 2 tabs for the days. My doc says just take them all at once for the day.
