I remember it was some kind of inhaler type thing. You blast it up the nose at onset? I only remember that it comPLETE-LY fucked me up and did didley for my headache........... I threw it in the trash after 1st try........that is-- after i peeled myself off the flo. I would NEVER Recommend Stadhol NS for ANYONE with clusters. Best luck and well wishes***

Thanks Kim I used a really small spray the first time, and it made me feel kinda loopy but did jack for my HA. The script said I could repeat after an hour, so I just did a full spray this time. We'll see!!! I've heard some rather interesting reactions to this drug!! Lizzie

I would take it for the bad ha and it would knock me out completly. At least I wasn't feeling any pain but I couldn't function. Your call if you want to use it. Also I built up a tollerance rather quickly.

For me, like any other narcotic it had little positive effect on my CH but did screw up reality for me for a while. Pretty strong stuff as I remember(?). PFDAN's Mark

It's the only med i ever had luck with. I got it when it first came out 10-15 yrs ago. It used to knock ha's out almost instantly. Not anymore. I just finished a bottle about a week and a half ago... It does take the "sharpness" off the pain, and will sometimes kill a small headache or shadows, but is pretty much useless when it comes to a serious one. Be very careful not to od on it. It's easy to do and it really suuuuucks! It's basically like synthetic morphine but about 7 times stronger. And you will build a tolerance fairly quickly. I would suggest no more than a spray every four hrs. It also can make the ha's "morph" or make you have rebounds. When I started the last bottle I went from 2-5 headaches that at least 1-2 were very bad and long, to having short, very intense headaches every 1/2 hr for a few days. It didn't really make me all fucked up either. Actually, sometimes I kind of liked the feeling... When I had a tolerance for it (after a few bottles in a row) I could use 2-3 sprays at once. But I repeat! Do not do that. I'm telling you, especially if you are new to it, if one spray does not kill it and you are brave (or dumb) enough to do the second one, leave it alone because it's not going to take away the HA at that point. You may want to try another spray, but I assure you on either the 2nd or 3rd spray you will be very, very sorry. Unless you're a heroin addict and your used to getting sick off opiates. You'll still have the headache, you'll be throwing up and will most likely have a hard time walking. You will sweat, have heart palpitations and possibly have a hard time breathing right. Be careful.

Ditto to what Kim said except I might have used mine twice just to see if the first time was really that bad...it was. VERY nasty stuff I thought but some people do have some success with it. Jim

I find it amusing that my insurance company is willing to pay for this and other narcotics, a trip to the ER, a 2 week hospital stay every 5-6 months....yet they won't pay for Amerge!! Dummies.... Well I'm gonna have to give this stuff another shot, but not tonight...already did about a spray and a half. Head still hurting a lot!! Mostly I am just really tired right now!! Gonna head to bed because tomorrow I'm getting certified in Basic Life Saving for health care providers (get to learn CPR, AED...stuff like that)....God help the people that I try to save! hehehe Lizzie

NS is one abortive that does work for me. Few others have success. I for one, dilute the med with distilled water to lessen the "Stone". That way it is easier to monitor how much you need to take care of the CH. When using this I wait until I just can't take the CH any longer and the NS will take the edge off. The generic is cheaper and works just as well. It is very addictive!! I've been there and it is tough to break the grip it can get on you. It tastes terrible (you'll get used to it), makes you sweat, pounding heart, hard to breath at times and when you are really lucky, you'll puke up your socks.

Hi Liz, I was given Stadol in the hospital one time. It did nothing for my headache but knocked me out for 3 hours. I was totally at anyones mercy after I took it. You take it just like trex nasal spray but it's some serious potent narc! I didn't like the feeling at all. I don't like feeling that vulnerable and out of it. If you do, enjoy the ride girlfriend. Hugs, Connie

LOL Connie, Actually every time but one that I checked into Jefferson...I was almost completely knocked out for the first 3 days or so. I usually don't remember much about them, and it does scare me a bit to be that out of it! I must be getting drug tough, though because when I took the stadol, the first time it did absolutely nothing to me. The second time it made me feel kind of drunk, but I was still fully aware of everything around me, and the benefit was that it simply made me not give a crap about the pain for awhile. So like echo said, I just use it in rather extreme circumstances. Take care! Lizzie

My husband uses Stadol about once a year, usually during the Spring, when he just needs sleep to break the cycle (he's chronic, but it amps up in the Spring). He only uses it at night, and only for 2 or 3 days, because his tolerance builds so quickly. He says it doesn't stop the pain, it just makes him so he doesn't care anymore. -Ella

Last I heard Stadol is not a narcotic, it doe's fuck you up, it doe's relieve pain and it has been abused but in the true sense of the word is not a narcotic. I seem to recall that it is a narcotic agonist, whatever that means. More here....http://www.headaches.org/consumer/topicsheets/stadol.html Peace, Lee

Lee, thanks for the info. I have not looked into it in that degree before. I think I am lucky in that I react relatively lightly to it. I do know you can get addicted, which is why I've actually only used it twice since getting it back at the end of March. I am very careful about stuff like that! I also get afraid of using meds and then they don't work as well. As I said before, it doesn't take away the CH pain for me, but it does help me to not care about it until the pain is over and the drug wears off!! Lizzie

I have seen posts about Stadol NS since 1999 when I first started to came to this site. I have seen mostly negative reviews. Also due to it being an opiate. I believe an agonitst/antagonist, it produces a strong sedative, almost dysphoric effect in many users. But...some people it may help. I think, though, most cluster heads would agree that it dosn't help. I have tried it once with no effect what so ever. -Freddy

I have been suffering with CH for several years and it wasnt until Stadol that I got ANY help at all. YES it CAN wipe you out but in the midst of a CH I will take that. I have read other responses where some ppl have said never take more than one but occasionaly I have to. I can make me crancky like some opiods do but the pain goes away. Good Luck! Mynm156

As I discussed with someone else...narcotic/opoid or not...if it helps even a little tiny bit, I'll take it. I don't use it very often at all (maybe at most once a week), but it does allow me to get through a severe attack or severe period with NDPH a little bit better. Personally, I don't see the harm in that! Lizzie
