Can Meds Have Reverse Effect?

First off, hello again to everyone. I am going to be the first to confess I am a jerk. I was in a cycle back in the summer that ended back in November (left side of head). During that time I got involved in 1 meeting setup by the Las Vegas CH'rs and skipped the following meetings after my cycle had ended. Call me a punk, but when the HA's are gone I dont want to even think of them, that includes coming to this message board, or talking with other sufferers iRL. I think Karma got me on that one, as starting in the beginning of Feburary another cycle started, this time on the other side of my head (right). Since then it has been pure madness. Anyhow please accept my apology for being a wuss, and if you choose not to discuss with me I understand. Anyhow my cycle was broken by this combo Diltiazem (Blood Pressure Medicine) Topomax (maybe) and Doxepin (Knocked me out at night so I slept through the pain pretty well..this with the BP meds is what did it I think) Anyhow, I went back to my normal life, drinking beers (oh how I love my beer), and enjoying things. One thing I did not stop doing was taking the Diltiazem. Now that the HA's are back, my doc increased the dosage but it has NIL effect, and the doxepin is not letting me sleep through the pain. I am waking up 2x a night taking 1/2 imitrex shots 2x. The other night I was in the emergency room, cause on topof the nightly pain, the constant throbing/ache/soreness on the right side of my head was 2 much to handle. It scared me that a cycle would come back so fast (usually they wait a year or more). Also my Sinuses felt like tweesers were inserted. I could not breath through my nose for anything. Well it seems the tests came back showing I had no serious problems in the head, just the typical CH cycle, however I am wondering if by not stopping the BP meds that now they are having a reverse effect on me causing the headaches. Seems when I take em, a HA shows up pretty quick behind it. Then again maybe the Doxepin is kickin my ass at night when I take it. Should I have stopped taking these meds once my cycle was over? Has anyone heard of the drugs that helped you reversing its effects and hindering? TIA Trick in Las Vegas

There are many stories of clusters "adapting" and rendering meds useless. Some also cause rebounds. So, how many times is it going to take you to go to the ER, before you figure out it's an expensive waste of time? Have you tried oxygen? Alot of us HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT! PS, I don't like thinking about these things out of cycle either.

Thanks for the Advice Super_Pain, owill discuss O2 as an option with the doc this weekend. Interested on the rebound effect however, I would really like the doc to change my meds and switch out all the old ones, but I think in terms of the BP Med mentioned above Diltizem, its basically Verapamil with a different name.

I think we should all get together and do a movie..."Night of The Clusterheads". George Romero would have nothing on us!!!

Hai, Sorry, I missed this post before, but better late than never. I think the common opinion around here is that meds may make CH worse either in frequency of ha's or in length of clusters and remissions...key word being may. Of course, that may or may not be the reason in your case. Since CH "adapts" to medicines especially for chronics, it's probably best for episodics to stop taking them when out of cycle (under an MD's advice, of course). From what I read shrooms may be an exception to this rule. JJA

Is it illegal because it's dangerous or is it dangerous because it's illegal? Our drug laws are ruining lives.
