Well today I was able to accomplish more with a nurse practioner in 30 minutes than I ever was with my last neuros.
I went to my university's student health services with all of the info on CH that I have accumulated over the past three years (from here, OUCH, and others) and my medical records. At first I was a little hesitant seeing her badge but she listened to me with full interest and asked the right questions. She then informed that the school would not allow them to treat someone with a chronic condition that needed follow up treatment and they would have to refer me to a neuro or gp. However, she must have seen the dejection that immediately set in and decided to present my case to medical director of the school. He agreed to allow me to have a prednisone taper (50x3, 40x3, 30x3, 20x3, 10x3) and verapamil 240 mg SR/day. They also informed me of a neurology clinic at my local hospital that charges based on your salary (which as a grad. student is close to nil) for those w/out insurance and set up an appointment for me in 2mos.
I just can't believe the compassion that the whole staff had in listening to me and dealing with my condition. They even dimmed the lights for me b/c I had gotten hit earlier that morning--it must have shown. They also knew about CH and even suggested some Rx's on the fly (no books)-although a little too $$$.  It is truly hard to find Rn.'s and Dr.'s like this these days. Just thought I would share my experience; it feels good to be appreciated when your in need!

Grats Thorns, Hope that it allows you to be PF.  Keep those people in your little black book for when you need them.

PF Wishes,

Yep! There are good people out there.

Believe it or not, I think it is the case much more than it was in the 60's and the 70's. Back then most all doctors saw headaches as something that were exclusively the problems of weak women or of nervous lives.

Remember, I said most!
