Yes...I often have a knot in the bottom of my neck. I can kind of judge from it if I'm going to get a "whopper"...

m'sheadhurts, are you holding, bending, straining your neck and/or back at a unsual or unnatural angle during you attacks? Pushing you head against the floor? Anything like that? Edski, that's called a clusterbump. Many people have reported the same thing. Welcome to the clusterbumpclub. Please send your subscription dues to me at OUCB@mucho$'s.4me

Yep, All sore down right side (same side as CH's). I think the CH causes it. Even though I pound, head, fists, and twist, and curl, like a trapez artist during a CH, only the one side is sore. It's like half of my body got a workout!

Yes my neck and shoulders end up in extreame pain. I was positive that it was a result of me tensing up so much during my 16 hours of getting hit over and over. However, my neuro and dr felt it was wise to send me to a physical therapist who could determine and make sure that I was not having tension headaches as a result of the tightness there. They ruled out tension headaches and recomended that I get frequent messages. It has helped me to feel good there and more relaxed. Did nothing for the ch but at least my neck and upper back are getting a break from being hit constantly.

| BobG, any hints on how to get rid of that knot/clusterbump? I tried Flexeril, a muscle relaxer and it didn't do squat except make the rest of my body relax. Similiar comment to yours - when it starts it means I'm in a bad cycle (like now)... Mark

Yes - I have always been tense, and ever sinse my back started getting worse, well lets just say there are days that I cant move at all. With the CH'es it is even worse. I notice is more after the CH is over. Sio I know that I tense up even more with the HA. Had a Pain management doc do trigger point is my shoulder and neck when I first started gettngt he HA's cause he was "SURE" that it was a tension HA and that he could "CURE" me. ell we all can tell how well that worked. Toader Tip of the Day: Dump your Chiropractor and Get a Massage!! Yes, my back, neck and shoulders are sore as hell too! I had been going to see the Chiropractor 2 - 3 times a week. No help. Then I tried Acupuncture. Better, but no cigar. Next Cranialsacral therapy. Ugh. Ok at first. Then GAVE me headaches. Finally just went and got a simple one hour back massage. HEAVEN! Shadows faded and those sore muscles got some much needed TLC. Best part is that it is covered by our insurance. Now I go once a week. Even if it wasn't covered, it is $60 per session. After the hell you've been through, treat yourself at least once, people! PS I bring my portable oxygen tank with me sometimes (affectionately known as R2O2) to the massage just in case I need a hit. So don't make excuses why you can't go - make the appointment and get yourself a massage

| No hints. I don't get the clusterbump and have never seen one. But a lot of people have reported getting them. Maybe someone will see this and tell us what they do.

The first sign of a CH for me, is a pain in the back of my neck, just above the shoulder and on the same side as my headaches. If I put pressure on this spot when I first notice it, I do not get a full blown headache. I hold the pressure for about 5 minutes or until the pain in my eye goes away. I have made a couple of posts on this site but I received so much shit from some of the oldtimers that I don't come here very often. It doesn't cost anything to try the pressure thing. Maybe it will work for you and maybe it won't. good luck.

| I am one sufferer who agrees wholeheartedly with you about the pressure. I apply an ice pack with tons of pressure to my left eye, head, temple area or anywhere else is hurting while in the grips of a cluster. For me this works better than the O2 did and at times, if I can find the "magic" spot, it eleminates the pain immediately. Different strokes for different folks, but this does work for me too. But, back to the neck problem, after applying that much pressure during an attack, my hands, arms, neck and shoulders all hurt. I do get "a" very intense muscle cramp from the left side of my neck and up the back of my head almost every time I yawn or stretch. Undoubtedly it is associated with the occipital nerve, because it is in the same place where my nerve blocks were done. I do have them more frequently since the nerve blocks, too. I feel that they are associated with CHs, but could be from all the pressure I apply during at attack. My neck and arms should resemble a lineman and probably will before long. Good Luck to all.
